It offered nothing new to the universe and actually diminished the mystery behind an iconic character.
I haven't seen Solo and have no desire to see it. Not only was my enthusiasm diminished by the disaster that was TLJ, I'm not interested in another pre-OT lead-in story that doesn't add anything to the larger universe or storyline.
Disney really needs do something new with Star Wars and stop going back to the OT well. From everything I've heard about Solo it was a solid heist movie. If that's the case, why not do it with different characters?

I didn’t see Solo in theaters or rent it because TLJ was so bad. It just became available on Netflix, so I watched it last night.
It was pretty good. Lots of action, pretty true to the charachter and overall cannon and was a good story. I’ll probably watch it again. It was better than Rogue One by a little bit, just because that one started out so slow.
Well done Opie, well done.

Like it. A lot.
Very much in the vein of the original Star War (New Hope).

Finally watched it. It was a little choppy at the start but once it founds it's groove it was pretty solid. Biggest issue was that Alden Ehrenreich doesn't have anywhere near the charisma of Harrison Ford.

That was my only criticism as well, but he wasn’t bad in the role. I was worried he would try too hard, but he seemed to do his own thing. I think Donald Glover tried to hard to be Billy Dee Williams, but it wasn’t too distracting.

Oh I agree that I wouldn't say he was bad. But when you have to replace a guy like Ford you need to be able to be charming while acting dickish. The most he could muster was a grin that seemed more like Christian Slater doing a Jack Nicholson smile.

It was cartoonish and unnecessary. I only enjoyed Chewbacca because he's my favorite character in all of star wars.
The rest was shite.

It was a fun space adventure, which is what Star Wars is supposed to be. It may have been a story that didn't need to be told, but at least it didn't ruin anything in the process.

Seriously, people have read so much into the original movie and built so much crap on top of it that they've forgotten what it was like to see that first film when it was an only child.

I think I preferred it to Rogue One (which, to me, dragged on a little).

Solo
Had it's moments.
I thought the first 30/45 mins were well done. The action sequences were good, especially the train hijack.
The conversation between L3 (Lando's bot) and Emilia Clarke's character on the Falcon was hilarious.

I watched Solo for the first time last night.
I enjoyed it. I'm not sure it dethrones Rogue One as my favorite of the non-original trilogy films, but it was good.
It's hard for anyone to match Harrison Ford, but Ehrenreich was decent as Han. The action sequences were all well done and it tied into the overall story without laboring to do so.
At the end, I was hoping for another film that we'll probably never get due to the poor box office of the first. It was what a Han origin story should be, an entertaining space adventure.

Its the best Star Wars after the original trilogy by a mile.
I know you’ve never see the animated clone wars and rebels series with a statement like that.
You’ve never seen Rogue One or the Mandelorian either?

It's not a bad movie at all. Hell, if it didn't have "Star Wars" attached to it, a lot more people would have probably watched it without complaint and simply enjoyed a sci-fi heist movie.
If Firefly had gone on to have multiple movies, I could see them with a Solo-esque style movie. All the elements are there for their kind of movie.
Maul at the end was dumb though. As much as his ending in The Phantom Menace was ending a potentially cool character too soon, them bringing him back in The Clone Wars and Rebels was more than enough.

I honestly cannot think of many people who can pull it off.
That said, he's a young Solo. That dickishness could easily be considered part of something that Han loses over his lifetime of experiences. Some people (most, IMHO) get more charming as they get older.

It’s okay. What I really dislike about it, though, is the fact that it’s a prequel. I know it seems silly, but I already know that Han was a smuggler, that he did the Kessel Run, that he won the falcon in a poker game against Lando, and that Chewie owes him a life debt in exchange for saving his life. I don’t need to watch a movie detailing all of that because it’s already known. The fact that he’s already an established character removes nearly all suspense. He has the ultimate plot armor, as does Chewie and Lando. They cannot die because I’ve already seen them in future movies.
If I had never seen another Star Wars movie, I’d have enjoyed it far more, but having seen the original trilogy, and having had the villain reveal spoiled for me beforehand, the whole movie felt...unnecessary.
So, in my opinion, it’s harmless, predictable, safe, and relatively entertaining for a prequel, but could be improved with a more charismatic lead actor.
In that way, I don’t think I would even rank it better than TFA.
