To be honest, I like Rogue One better than Ep 7 TFA.

Vader and Empire, not Ren and First Order. I have a little more knowledge and investment in the first pair, not so much in the second.
Better special effects; better combat scenes.

Loved seeing the Star Destroyer over the city, more than the beached one in the desert in the other movie.

Looks like they spent a little more thought about what was going onto the screen, rather than just tossing out splashy images.

I don't care for the Han Solo portrayal in TFA (never mind the death, I didn't care for all the cheesy "let me use your bowcaster again" and shooting without looking crap). The bromance isn't doing it for me either. Hated how they just went over-the-top with the X Wings in TFA, apparently they can now corner well enough to circle inside the Superdome at full speed. Just a lot of things in TFA grate on me after the new shine has worn off, that were done better in Rogue One.

I wish it had the correct (Star Wars) theme and music. John Williams' music is probably as iconic as it comes, and there's no reason to stray from it within the Star Wars universe, especially if we're doing a period piece set against the classic's backdrop. I have no recollection of the music from Rogue One.

It was more visually interesting than TFA, but the characters, plot, and musical score were all inferior.

I enjoyed TFA much more. The Vader scene saved the movie and wasn't even in it originally. It was part of the reshoot. I wonder what all was redone and what was cut.

You didn't even pay attention to the movie if you thought the father was a bad guy. He made the ultimate self sacrifice. Doing something he knew was wrong in order to create an opening for the rebellion. They would have built the death star without him, and then the rebels wouldn't have gotten the plans.

This. Current MVP Race:

1. Galen Erso
2. Russel Westbrook
3. James Harden

characters,
hard to call that either way. TFA had memorably bad performances, R1 had largely forgettable performances.

plot
I'll go with Rogue One on this- it fits into the Star Wars story. TFA- who the heck is Snoke and how did he avoid Palpatine; what is the First Order, what's the New Republic and why isn't it on Coruscant, etc. Basically- Return of the Jedi, we won. The sequel shows up and there's absolutely no evidence of that, just petty little wars amongst different factions. Meh.

For analogy, if the Alliance didn't restore the Republic galaxy wide, I would expect it would at least be a NATO/Warsaw Pact split. The scope of this was more like the Balkans.

musical score
yes, by a gigantic margin.

If nothing else, the timeline of the countdown at the end of TFA was enough to kill that movie for me.

10 minutes to go? No biggie, lets walk several miles and search through a giant building, we have plenty of time!

Relating this to Star Wars Rebels, I'm guessing that Cassian Andor is now Fulcrum since Kallus is now fully defected to the Rebellion.

Darth Vader was a bad arse.

Vader slaughtering people in that hallway might be the second best moment in the entire franchise.

No shite. There have been 6 movies and entire graphic novel universe dedicated to the first two. There has been one movie half dedicated to one part of the second pair.
