Those of you who haven't watched it yet are missing out on something special. Taking place in the late-800s/early-900s, it is the story (based on a series of historical fiction novels) of how England became one united kingdom. While the main protagonist is fictional, he's a composite character based on several men who lived during this time period and interacts with historical people while also participating in historical events.
I am now impatiently waiting for season five which, thanks to Covid, will likely be a longer time in coming.

Is it better than Vikings. Because I’ve been binging Vikings for a couple months now and just got caught up to season 6 and it’s probably now in my top 3 series all time. I know last kingdom is along the same vein

Personally I think Last Kingdom is better than Vikings. I haven't kept up with Vikings though. It got boring to me.

I admit I didn’t have a huge urge to continue on after
SPOILER
Ragnar dies
END SPOILER
But I’m glad I did, it’s still badass. Yes it has lost some luster but bjorn is keeping it afloat. I just absolutely love how deep they go with Norse mythology vs Christianity and the questioning of eachothers religion, it’s what makes it more than just a predictable wack and slash action series IMO. I can’t get enough and will be upset once it’s done for sure

Ragnar death ended it for me

Perfect timing by Assassins Creed franchise to make a Viking game while everyone is caught up in these two shows. Can’t wait for it.

Vikings blows Last Kingdom out of the water; it's not even close IMO. That said, Last Kingdom is still a great watch - but don't have hopes of Vikings 2.0.

I really like Last Kingdom but they are getting pretty predictable with the plot. Uhtred on top, Uhtred not on top, Uhtred struggles, Uhtred On top, New season, repeat.

I’m half way through season 4 and it’s been great. I do agree with the predictability so I hop that changes soon.

I binged it during Covid and loved it. Just started season 2 of Vikings and am enjoying it so far as well.

I started Vikings a couple of years back with the intention of watching it and then doing TLK - but, I didn't like Vikings and got sidetracked.
I also tried Knightfall (which should have been precisely in my wheelhouse), but didn't like it, either.
So, now I'm gunshy about TLK, but am rethinking it. We're finishing a rewatch of DS9 and I'm going to pitch that to Mrs. Midnight. We have single seasons to catch up (Westworld, The Expanse, etc.) and I may talk her into either Boardwalk Empire (which I never finished) or Man in the High Castle (which I haven't watched the last season, yet).
But, TLK is still on my radar.

Aethelflaed,Aethelred, Aelswith,Aelfric.
Really enjoyed the series. My feeble mind had to stop and think who was that when one of the above names was mentioned.

Couldn't agree more, same as you should have been a slam dunk for me, but couldn't get past the second episode.

Halfway thru season 2, enjoying it,but damn Uhtred does not learn from his past mistakes. Like someone said earlier it does appear to be alot of rinse and repeat. That said I'm going to continue watching.

I like how he did things his way. But then listened to others because he had no choice. But then at the end figured out he had to go back to doing it his own way. And had four lovers per season. Then the next season the poor fella forgot all he learned and had to bounce back and forth again between doing it his way and someone else’s way.
