Doorman is the best episodes, I think
Agreed. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed this show, but now we want a Doorman series.

Finished it today and really enjoyed it. Sir Ben killed it. One of the better series to come out of Disney in some time.

Just finished it up. This isn't so much a superhero story as it is a drama about working hard to achieve a dream, betrayal, redemption and loyalty. The superhero stuff is the vehicle driving the story, but it's not the story itself and I think that's why it works so well.
This isn't the comic book Simon Williams, but they handled it so well I DGAF and I'm a bit of an IP originalist with these things.
The original Simon Williams/Wonder Man was a redemption arc which resulted in a character whose core was to continually believe he was always needing to prove himself.
In the comics, Simon tried to leave superhero-ing to become an actor. In this, it seems he is leaving acting to become a superhero.
Even though this Simon's core was driven by something else, it was essentially that same need for validation and was written so well that it may actually be better.
They never explain this Simon's origin and I'm not sure how I feel yet about the flight thing (I always liked that the comic book version could fly only with the rocket belt, to keep him from being too much of a Thor or Superman clone).
Kingsley's portrayal was absolutely exceptional and normally this would be where someone says he stole the show. Except he didn't. While his character was able to absorb so much of each scene he was in, the writing and Kingsley's portrayal combined to share that spotlight with Mateen's quiet but constantly self-doubting Simon Williams as it served to underscore the differences between the two characters (which ended up being a real selling point to the presentation of their unlikely friendship).

I still need to start this, but do they ever address how or why Trevor is not in gitmo or that ocean prison? The dude was the willing face of a terror organization that killed an untold number of people.

It comes up.

That is the only thing I would gripe about.
He seems pretty fricking powerful and I seriously doubt he has never been identified as someone with powers. And if he just got these powers he shouldn’t be flying around yet based on the comic character.

quote:The original ended up with a convoluted origin where he was the human zombie brother of the android Vision. It wasn't exactly as simple as Superman leaving Krypton or Spider-Man losing Uncle Ben. It's part of the reason that I never gave a crap about the comic version. It seemed like every time the early Wonder Man showed up, his origin was getting revised.
The original Simon Williams/Wonder Man
I agree with you that parts of this new version are better than the comics.

Eventually, yeah. The original origin (wanting misplaced revenge against Tony Stark for the failure of the company he inherited from his father) wasn't bad but the way the MCU timeline unfolded, there just wasn't a good way to fit Simon into it before Tony dies.
Having watched this series though, I don't think they would have had the writing at that time to build the character as well as this series has done.

The answer is the driver of the plot

I decided to watch the show completely blind. I read no reviews and did no prior research on the character. The show was an entertaining watch. Im very thrilled that they resisted the urge to throw in a random super powered final battle in the last episode.
I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that this character will be sort of self contained within his own story. I can't see Simon Williams ever joining the Avengers or even being apart of those storylines. I would be interested in seeing his own story flesh out a bit more. Where did his powers come from? Is he a mutant? How long can he keep his powers secret?
