The episode in the funeral home that was basically a theater production is one of my favorite episodes of tv in a long time.

It was a classic Hitchcock throwback.

I really hope they do some more homages in this season like that.

I’ve been thinking of watching this soon.

Like you I’m not expecting much but most everyone I know really likes it.

It's one of the best written shows I've ever seen and doesn't have a weak episode. Masterful television.

Good news. I've been wanting to watch it too, but just haven't and have passed over it in my NF list countless times. May have to give this a shot once I finish up Cobra Kai, especially since a new season is coming soon.

ETA: my question is this: Is it a complete, cohesive story? I assume it is since it seems to now be an anthology series and S2 seems to be a different story and setting.

I heard there was a book, is it worth a read?

I'm not sure but this makes me nervous.

The writers are out of source material so I'm hoping the next season won't suck.

Actually, it was just called The Haunting.

I think he's thinking of "The House on Haunted Hill"

Worst part of the series IMO. Yes it was an effective jump scare, but the series had established that it was not going for that audience trick. They superbly developed real horror the old fashioned way, and then that one moment hijacked what they developed.

Outside of that, this show was spectacular. One of the all time greats, and it's in contention for best Netflix has put out (Daredevil and Punisher are in that battle as well)

The second to last episode is probably the most dread I’ve ever felt watching a TV show or movie.

it'll be based at Bly Manor (the connection to the first season).

Where was Bly Manor mentioned in the first season or what was the connection? It's been a long time since I watched the first season.

The house they lived in as kids that they went back to at the end.

The next season is based on the novel “The Turn of the Screw.”

If this was sarcasm it went over my head.

Don’t even remotely agree. It was a wonderful and real jump scare that came completely out of nowhere. There’s a reason it got such a great reaction from those who watched the series.

I agree that I don't even remotely agree.

One of the reasons it was so effective was because it was not in keeping with the rest of the series and completely unexpected.

that's what jumpscares do. they work, but they cheapen paced horror like this. I'm glad you and others liked it, but it undermined what they established in this series

Loved the series, but that last episode just fell flat.

Eh, I think had they used it as a device throughout it would've cheapened it.

One jump scare out of a whole series doesn't undermine it though. Especially when it had established itself in the horror realm.

Just started this. Pretty good so far, but they hop around a lot making it hard to follow. Wanted to watch this one before the Bly House.
