About a decade ago, one of the hot new trends in the film industry was states writing tax credits into their statutes and regulations. The idea was that rather than making California and Vancouver double for every city in North America, Hollywood would be able to shoot on location at roughly the same cost and local business would benefit from access to studio productions. Of course, there is an obvious flaw with this plan: while studios might gain access to locations through tax credits, the local infrastructure they need? — ?stages, technicians, union members? — ?is often nowhere to be found. As recently as August 2016, Variety had declared this a dead experiment.
Then again, if one person knows anything about bringing things back from the dead, it’s George R.R. Martin. According to a recent piece in Rolling Stone (via Vulture), Martin has recently announced his intention to open Stagecoach Foundation, a not-for-profit film studio in his hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mayor Javier Gonzales spoke with theAlbuquerque Journal about the development, saying that Martin’s vision is “to make this facility accessible and affordable,” allowing both established filmmakers and up-and-coming artists to have a space for their films.Rolling Stone notes that Joel and Ethan Coen have already committed to using Stagecoach Foundation to shoot parts of their next film.
New Mexico may not be the first state that comes to mind when you think of the film industry, but it’s been home to plenty of major film and television productions. You can scroll through the complete list of film courtesy of the New Mexico Film Office, but it’s a list that includes recent blockbusters such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Independence Day: Resurgence, and 2 Guns, as well as television shows such as Preacher, Breaking Bad, and Longmire. If Martin truly is committed to making New Mexico Hollywood’s home in the southwest, then providing filmmakers an affordable studio with access to industry professionals is a good way to start.
And that, my friends, is the only news article about George R.R. Martin you’ll read this week that doesn’t mention The Winds of Winter. Oh, crap.

I hope it fails miserably

Well, at least it's in his hometown. You know, the only place in the world that he'll write.

Just so you know, I'm definitely gonna be stealing the Jar Jar Martin reference in the future.
Also I hate that fat bastard. It's like he doesn't want to finish just so he can have mystique surrounding the unfinished 7th book after he does. My only hope at this point is that he's sitting on a finished book 6 and has a decent chunk of book 7 done and wants to shock the world with a double release. But unfortunately I don't think Ser Too Fat is that magnanimous

Stealing that.
I also love people who are so mad that have been reading the books for like 6 years. Imagine 20 years of this shite.
I've just given up. I don't even care about the books anymore. I'll just watch the show and maybe I'll read the last two if they ever come out.
Rothfuss is getting on that level soon.

I'm with you there. I held out on the show because I didn't want it to ruin the books until last season I said screw it. He may never finish them

Those last 2 books were dead long before this latest distraction.

You can tell by his not so thienly veiled comments since Dance that he woulod love to drop the book series and finish the series through television. Hollywood was always his first love. He's even actively trying to get his Wildcard stuff into the medium now.

13 years ago my neighbor introduced me to GOT and gave me the first few books to read.
At the time I thought he was being a good friend.
Now, if you are reading this "Screw you, Patrick."

What comments are you referring to?

C'mon man, that's not nearly obscure enough for this board. That movie actually used to be on basic cable a ton.
I can't remember if it was Season in Hell that they were trying to find the tapes for or if Season in Hell was there "big" album.
