007 being a woman isn't new to the franchise.
In the very first movie, there are several fake 007s planted in the hotel. Some are women; no one seems to think this makes them obvious fakes. So it stands to reason that originally:
1. Who the 007 designation belonged to was unknown.
2. The employed female agents
3. There was reason to fear female agents
That said, I doubt they'll recognize all of this in their effort to be "woke"

I buy it in super hero movies because it makes sense in those fictional worlds. Any sort of movie grounded in reality it's hard to take seriously.

Men that just want to bitch about stupid low key sexist shite. I love the John Wick movies but he isn't actually capable of killing 300 people in a night

You just knew that this movie was going to suck when the early interviews had quotes like this:
