I've been on a huge Godzilla kick lately, and I'm curious if anyone else on the board here would want to discuss such things in one thread.

Topics covering the various eras of Godzilla. Gamera movies. Lesser known Kaiju films. Whatever.

Fresh topics on the latest live action Japanese film, "Shin Godzilla" (which I haven't seen discussed here), the new anime Godzilla movies, and the current American Monsterverse series of films.

Any takers or shall I endure your mockery then retire to the nerdery with the other nerds?

Because the "Kick-arse" dude who married his much older lady-director then took her last name (hyphenated) is a better actor? Obviously.

But to be honest, I didn't want to watch that movie just because of Cranston, anyway.

Ever since I was 4 or 5 years old I've been somewhat of a Godzilla fan. I haven't seen all of them, but the ones I've seen have always stuck with me. I even have a few on DVD.

I think the first one I ever saw, and maybe still my favorite today, was Godzilla 1985. I thought he was actually really scary and threatening in that one and that was my first impression of him. Which is why some of the goofier "Godzilla vs. ______" are so hilarious, Godzilla vs. Megalon being the best/worst ( LINK).

How was the new netflix version? I've got it cued up, just haven't committed yet.

Been a godzilla fan since I was a wee lad.
favorties are : Godzilla (original 1956) 2014, and even 98. I like godzilla vs moth, destoryah, ghidorah, mechagodzilla, king kong, Raids agian Final wars, and destroy all monsters.

My dad was working in Manhattan during the filming of the 1998 Godzilla before they moved production to California.

2014 Godzilla looked good, but I wish they'd focus on Godzilla and not Kick arse. Who cares about the humans.

Pacific Rim 2 looks like shite btw.

I have hope for the Monsterverse (or whatever it's called); I think modern special effects and giant monsters are a match made in heaven. Pacific Rim tapped into this.

Biggest complaint with Godzilla 2014 is the minimal onscreen time the big guy had. I do think the latest Kong movie seemed to address that complaint, he was onscreen a good bit more, and did more.

I grew up loving the goofy Godzilla films, they were an absolute blast.

Used to watch Godzilla (and Mothra, Space Chief etc.) movies every Sunday morning as a kid.

They were entertaining stuff but even as a kid they were pretty rife for snarking on.

I do too, and it's because of:

Very interested to see the buildup to Godzilla vs. Kong in two years.

I didn't much care for the 2014 film, for the reason you stated and not likely the MUTOs that much. But there is definite excitement post-Kong.

As did I.

godzilla vs kong isnt that great of a concept, i feel like G-zilla will be better in a pacicfic rim crossover

Ghidorah will be awesome on screen

Why not? Because it's already happened once before in Godzilla's third ever film?

No thanks.

It's decent. Not enough Godzilla in it, and it is guilty of many of the ever present anime annoyances (long angry screams, an intense feeling of love by characters out of nowhere, unexplained "science").

But...I did like the concept of Godzilla. The "what" he is in the series. Looking forward to the next two in the trilogy.

Which ones? The three from the '90s are some of the best Kaiju movies out there, in my opinion. And the most recent, "Gamera the Brave," is pretty decent as well.

As far as the older ones go, I've only seen a handful, and that was when I was a kid. Many of those are pretty silly as far as I can gather.

That might have worked had you been the first poster, but alas...you were not. Seems there has been some interest.

Mainly because Godzilla is what... 300-400 fee tall, depending on the movie... and King Kong is what... 100 at the most? Shouldn't even really be anything more than a 10 second curbstop by Godzilla.

Well...much like they did for the 1962 movie, they scale Kong up to Godzilla's size.

It's not like they're taking the King Kong from the RKO movie that climbs the Empire State Buildling and pitting him against Godzilla.
