Godzilla was the most boring monster movie I've ever seen. that's a real accomplishment. Kudos.
Pacific Rim was awesome. It made way less sense than Godzilla (now pay attention, Dark Knight haters) but it was 100x more entertaining. It was a proper "monster movie" like my brother and I used to love as kids. I know that a lot of pandering to Asian crowds is the norm for the genre these days, but doing so in PR was the absolutely correct thing to do. It is such an awesome tribute to those old movies from the 70's.
The sequel looks like some crap from the Disney Channel, though.

Love kaiju movies. Really looking forward to watching Godzilla destroy Kong (I know that won't happen).
Kaiju movies and any movie with an animal killing people and wrecking cities is right in my wheelhouse. I don't care how cheesy or low budget.

All I can say is I am waiting for King Ghidorah to show up and wreck shite. I think King Kong will take up where Rodan spot would be traditionally in that fight.
Back then it was Godzilla, Morthra and Rodan battling Ghidorah, but now it would be Godzilla , King Kong and Mothra. At least I think so.

In the most recent King Kong, set in 1972 or so, they made a point to have the John C. Reilly character mention that Kong was young and still growing. So, by 2019 he'll be twice as large.

I love Godzilla movies. Off the top of my head Destoroyah, Biollante, Space Godzilla and King Ghiddorah movies were my favorite.
I like Gamera too.

godzilla has breath, and king kong shouldnt be too big
The atomic breath thing usually is a huge advantage to the Big G, but it didn't really have much of an effect on King Kong back in the 1962 movie. They also gave Kong an advantage of being strengthened by electricity, for some reason. Perhaps they will give him a similar or other sort of advantage as well.
And, Kong isn't the prime monster in this universe we are discussing, it's Godzilla. Kong will be sized up to match, which is okay in my book.

i hope they redesign ghidorah, he looks cheesy
What kind of redesign are you hoping for? You think he'll be anything other than a golden, three-headed dragon with two tails?
Back to the breath vs. Kong chat, with slight spoilers to "Kong: Skull Island":
Besides their mentioning how Kong is still growing as another poster said, it's possible they showed evidence that fire doesn't both Kong that much. The soldiers ignite a pool of napalm with Kong inside o it, and he doesn't burn all that much. We'll see how they handle it, though.

That may be. Godzilla has other tricks up his sleeve, though. First, he will mesmerize Kong.
Then move in for the kill.
Then fly away in victory.

Maybe so, but Kong has tenacity.
On the other hand, that version of Kong did have a drinking problem.
The real problem is going to be if they team up.
Sell any stock you may have in pagodas now!

How do you not like that.

Ghidorah was redesigned one time.

My kid did an extended essay on the role of Gojira as a metaphor for nuclear weapons in the original film as part of the IB curriculum. Did a pretty good job, if I say so myself.
I've never been a big fan of the numerous reboots and remixes over the years, with the exception of the camp appeal of the mid-60s "Godzilla Vs ________" Toho classics. But the original Gojira is a truly brilliant film, especially considering the mindset of the nation that produced it at the time. And it's far more complex morally than one would imagine - the creature is at once terrifying and sympathetic, and the internal conflict of Serizawa is very moving and well portrayed.
I can only imagine the reaction of the Japanese movie-going public from watching the opening scene, not just in light of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but the Lucky Dragon 5 incident that occurred just months before the movie's release.
I did see the 2014 film in the theatre and enjoyed it.

That's technically a totally different creature, Monster X/Keizer Ghidorah, than King Ghidorah. Toho is pretty good about trademarking specific things. For example, there is a difference between Rodan and Fire Rodan (red version that has a breath attack seen in second half of "vs. Mechagodzilla II"), just because you have the rights to one doesn't mean you have the rights to all. (Which, I believe, is why the new Monsterverse movie won't have a Rodan that breathes fire.)
Keizer Ghidorah is more similar to the Desghidorah that appears in 1996's "Rebirth of Mothra" than to the regular King Ghidorah, if you ask me.
Monster X was kind of interesting, though.

I never knew about that. That's a frightening story.

Where the 1954 original drew inspiration from the WWII bombs and destruction, the latest Japanese, live-action film ("Shin Godzilla") was inspired by, and evokes images of, the 2011 tsunami and resulting Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Which brings up the question, has anyone else watched "Shin Godzilla"?

I liked it. It was definitely different than previous things. I has no connections to the 1954 film, which all the other reboots did.
I really should look into the aftermath of those disasters, as much of the beginning of the film seems to be political/crisis management/disaster response satire.
Godzilla has a strange look and a somewhat strange power set. He metamorphoses a couple of times before getting to his final form. It was CGI based on motion capture acting, but the film still felt like it was a "rubber suit" movie, which I liked.
More curious to see if they stay with that design and origin when Toho is able to make live-action Godzillas again after Legendary's rights run out in 2020.

Would like to see a Zilla, Kong, Pacific Rim things, and Pacific Rim robots all in a movie together. Just have them all wrecking everything in sight and going at each other.
