Is there a more disrespected character in Hollywood than Winston Zeddemore?

1) He doesn't appear in the first movie poster

2) SYFY Interview
Talks of not being invited/casted to be in Afterlife (yet/it's a 2018 video).

3) The black kid in Stranger Things didn't even want to be Winston...

4) In Ghostbusters 2, he's in the courtroom scene for a few lines before the court session begins. He could be in the audience, but does he leave? He doesn't participate in catching the Scoleri Brothers.

5) In the original movie, Winston was supposed to be introduced very early in the movie, and the day before Ernie is to begin filming, he's given a new script where he shows up towards the middle of the movie.

The night before filming begins, however, I get this new script and it was shocking. The character was gone. Instead of coming in at the very beginning of the movie, like page 8, the character came in on page 68 after the Ghostbusters were established. His elaborate background was all gone, replaced by me walking in and saying, “If there’s a steady paycheck in it, I’ll believe anything you say.” So that was pretty devastating.

These are just a few instances. I'm sure there are more.

The part was written for Eddie Murphy but they didn’t get him, so the movie was rewritten to backseat that character.

The character had some great lines and I think it works pretty well that's he's just a dude off the street looking for a job.

In his defense if the game is still canon, Winston did get his doctorate in Egyptology and is referred to as doctor with his colleagues.

It’s not a big deal, but it did elevate his character above “hired hand”.

You don't want to know what happened to him on the early pan and scan versions of Ghostbusters. There's a reason he was repeatedly positioned on the edges of the screen.

He's great at conventions (which all seem to have a Ghostbuster group with Ecto-1 in tow).

At the start of the Con in Lafayette, he walked in the back door, strode up to the Ghostbusters area, slapped his hands together loudly and boomed out "WHO YOU GONNA' CALL!"

Love when the celebs have a great attitude about being around fans.

He was that fourth hominid in 2001: A Space Odyssey that you never saw on TV until they switched to airing it in widescreen.

100% agree. It adds some authenticity to these egghead professors trying to run a business where they are in over their heads and just need manpower.

It also gives them a chance to explain some of their theoretical science to the viewer through another layperson.

It gives us one of the best exchanges in the movie, and Hudson crushes those lines: “That’s a big Twinkie” “Tell him about the Twinkie”

Not to mention his car ride with Ray is probably the coolest scene in the movie imo:

MYTH???

Plus, Winston gets the big sign off with the last big line of the movie: “I LOVE THIS TOWN!!!!”

Hudson was a bit TV actor that never even had a recurring role at that point in his career. Ghostbusters was a huge break for him and he did a great job in the role which set him up for a nice career. But it would have been weird to put him on the poster honestly. Posters are advertisements, and he didn’t merit being next to Murray, Akroyd, and Ramis.

If anything Weaver should have been on it.

But I love Hudson as an actor. He proved his chops in Oz, but was also great in Basketball Diaries and stole the show in The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.

Love me some Winston Zeddemore

ETA: Plus, Winston is on the DVD cover, which is appropriate because it isn’t an advertisement anymore, it’s for people that know the movie and recognize the character, while they would not have known the actor before the movie was released.

i noticed that years ago. you would've thought a person like dan akroyd would've caught that. the didn't even dub over it in later editions of the movie.

I've been to one convention. All the celebs there seemed to love the attention (go figure), but most were really cool about it.

Bruce Campbell was super cool
The old guy who played Hershel in Walking Dead was enjoying the hell out of himself.
I got to meet the guy who plays Draco Malfoy, and he was really nice.

I have a buddy who's an uber nerd. He makes a lot of money, but is not married and has no kids. He spends thousands to go to cons, and have the VIP experience with these celebs. The walls of his house are plastered with pictures of him and William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Karl Urban and others.

He says everyone he meets is nice to him. Of course they are. You just dropped a grand for a 5 minute meeting with them and a picture.

Ernie Hudson is an all around good guy too. There’s a great video online of his son at a Pokémon tournament being interviewed about how to play the game, strategies, etc and he’s kinda stumbling through it and clearly feels awkward. Ernie pipes up to support his son and explains how buying the card decks works and how his son plays and you just get the vibe that Ernie took the time to learn about his sons interests that clearly don’t align with his own in order to bond with his son. Makes you like him even more.
