Is there a better opening episode than S1E1 of Breaking Bad?

I just started a rewatch.

What a phenomenal start to the series. It effectively introduces all the main characters and their personalities and motivations. It's damn near perfect. Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston might be my favorite TV duo of all time.

It's a great opening.

I love Mad Men more...but their opening sucks. God I hate his original fling chick.

The few times I’ve heard someone say “the first episode of BrBa just didn’t grab me,” I was literally triggered.

I really did like the show despite its mostly unlikeable characters. As far as duos go, I much prefer Avon and String or my current favorites Tommy and Arthur Shelby.

Breaking Bad > Sistine Chapel
Breaking Bad > Divine Comedy
Breaking Bad > the Sphinx

Certainly not the best episode of the series, but as far as debuts go, S1E1 of The Shield pretty much hits the ground running...

The opening to the shield was pretty legit. I wanted to be a dirty cop for months after that.

BB is my favorite show ever. When I saw the first episode I was intrigued, but also had a feeling this could be very good or very bad.

I suppose part of my reason for feeling that way was I thought at the time that it would get silly pretty quick.

Less patient writers would have had Walt as some kind of drug kingpin by the end of the first season and the following seasons would have become more ridiculous because they had nowhere left to go with the character.

The true genius of that show was the slow burn pace that allowed it to constantly get better and more intense show after show all the way to the finale.

If we are just going by the first episode, Mr. Robot’s pilot is significantly better. Would also say the same for True Detective.

This is also why I roll my eyes when people bitch about Better Call Saul being too slow.

It's really not that slow when you binge it. It's just hard waiting week to week when you are dying for more.

These guys know what they are doing and I think BCS is about to really get interesting.

I've always thought that people were way off base when they say that S1 of BB wasn't that great. The show hit the ground running. Yeah, S1 is probably the worst of the series, but it was still phenomenal. I think it's time for another rewatch.

I started binging a week ago. I get to see Jessie's phone call to Walt with the photo of a barrel when I strap in tomorrow.

S1 E1 of Californication was dead on as well.

Hank Moody walking into a church to get some divine intervention from the man in charge but ends us meeting a hot nun who eventually offers him a blow job. And in Hank Moody fashion, he accepts.

Pretty much explains Hank Moody. He wants to do good and makes part of the effort but bad things always seem to fall into his lap and he accepts them instead of denying.

I tried to watch this show, but thought it was terrible. Everyone raves about it, but after the first season I had no desire to continue. I like Walter, but everything else is meh to me.

Those are the people who start watching thinking they are watching an action series. I have a few buddies who couldn't get into it because people were describing the show how it ended instead of how it started and they missed the point.

The turning point in the show is the last scene of the season 1 finale imo. That's a great scene.

I can understand that, but you should give it another chance. After season two that show becomes absolutely great.
