And if you think so, who do you think should play Flash?

Who should do the soundtrack?

Yes, it could work.

Not a "remake", though. Kind of like Tron:Legacy. An homage and continuation. Not like Clash of the Titans, which was a technological update that lost all of the feeling of the original.

Unfortunately, we live in a different world, and they would crap all over it. The music would suck, the costumes and characters would suck, the comic-book feel would be gone...and they would never cast an unknown like Sam Jones to play the part.

So I guess what I'm saying is that no, we aren't ready for the remake that we would end up getting.

Ha.

This pansy arse generation would piss their pants. It would either get turned into an atrocity or get cancelled out the door.

And who the hell can even think about matching Max Von Sydow as Ming? Forget about it.

I was one of the 100 people who actually watched the 2007 version of the sho and enjoyed it. Not enough people under 40 know about that IP to make it very big and buzzworthy

I think they could update Flash Gordon if they used the MCU method of translating the characters from the comic to movies in costume and settings sure they could.

Flash and Dale would actually be pretty easy to recast. It's the other characters that would be complicated.

I would like to see a real Asian play Ming like Ken Watanabe, Daniel Dae Kim, Benedict Wong just to name a few. If you nail the villain the rest of the cast should fall into place.

In addition to Flash Gordon, I want to see Buck Rogers remade. This was a childhood favorite as I understand there is an ongoing dispute of ownership rights that is keeping it from being remade. Too bad,

I don’t think so. The feel of the movie, cool, campy, goofy, and bizarre at the same time combined with being made when it was, could not be replicated.

I don't, but if it had to go down -

I suspect that the Flash Gordon remake will fare much like the Clash of the Titans remake. Lesser actors, lesser music, more expensive special effects, lesser movie. The Flash Gordon remake will also crystalize just how irreplaceable the Queen soundtrack was. No modern artist could get close, even if he or she tried.

Why did you have to bring politics into this?

But to the Op, no it couldn't and shouldn't be made. Just as others have stated the Cheese and Camp of it is what makes it great, just like Clash of the Titans. If they remade it, it would be gritty and dark, the music would suck, and it would just lose its hart. Some things are just better left alone.

This. A movie like this or Big Trouble in Little China (one of my favorites) can't be replicated. Things came together in just the right way to make them what they are.
