I like superhero movies, but I have to have one of the iconic ones. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, etc.

Thor and Dr. Strange… I just don’t give a shite.

There’s definitely fatigue but Disney + factors in too, once I heard this and Dr Strange were meh that did little to advance the MCU forward, I figured I’ll just wait until it hits Disney + in a few weeks

Tell me you don’t have a family of four right now without telling me. People are not going to hit all of these movies, with kids and concession prices. They’re going, but they’re making a priority of what to see/what not to see.

Fact check: true. I’m not a parent and have an Alamo Pass for $20 a month, but even if I go there alone or with a date I think “Jesus Christ, what the frick am I spending this on?” I make a decent amount of money and am single, so I can’t imagine what parents on a fixed income are thinking in all this. It’s enough to make me raise an eyebrow every time I sign the check even though I personally paid only a buck to see the movie.

Again it shocks me on a date. No, I fully believe her on this. Like a bowl of popcorn and three beers (and this is barring the ticket) cost me like $35. Went and watched Lawrence of Arabia a couple of months ago on the big screen (worth it regardless of the price) and realized I bought it on Blu Ray for $12 and could have watched it at home and spent like $70 bucks on that date in the theater. Sorry, that shite adds up.

Thor & Star Lord, in theory, could be the natural leaders of the next Avengers-like team-up, but they've basically been turned into jesters/butt-of-jokes in their own movies.

I have similar criticisms for how they've handled Dr Strange. He could have been a leading role in the next phase of films/shows, but instead they've made him a complete moron.

So we've got Star-Lord and Thor being total jokes, and Dr Strange being a completely out-of-character idiot who has almost destroyed reality twice at this point and is also apparently the only redeemable version of Dr Strange in the entire multiverse.

That’s part of my initial point, people are having to prioritize what they're spending money on. This includes movies. I’m sorry that wasn’t particularly clear to you.

People aren't picking and choosing based on cost. You can get$5 tickets every week at most theaters movie makers are just putting out duds more concerned with messaging and box checking.

So Lightyear and it's woke bullshite flopping while Maverick made a billion is a total coincidence in your mind?

It honestly does. And we just made that decision ourselves. Took the kid to see the Minions movie. Waited for Bob’s Burgers to stream. And then we’ll go back to see the DC Superpets since the kiddo wants to see it in theater.

At this point, we’re ok with waiting for Thor to come to Disney+. The newest wave of Marvel movies haven’t really been a priority (and nothing to do with anything woke).

Dude, it’s everything man. The food, gas, and the concessions are ridiculous. Now at Alamo I think I get my bang for my buck, but still I can’t imagine parents going with these prices.

I’m old enough to remember when my parents would simply drop me off alone at the theater, the tickets were $5.00, a popcorn and soda were $4.00, and then my parents would pick me up once the movie ended. Seriously they did this with me as early as 5 or 6 since I was well behaved and they were friends with the owners. That era has well passed and parents have to weigh their options.

The Toy Story franchise has been pretty played out at this point. So that doesn’t surprise me at all. That’s the kind of movie that not that long ago was just going straight to DVD.

Maverick is a sequel to a movie with a ton of nostalgia that was well done and people had been waiting a long time to drop.

IMO you’re comparing apples and oranges. I think its easily a combination of people cutting back due to inflation as well as prioritizing what they want to see.

Your family is more accepting of this type of content. 50% of the country will pick and choose which movies to go to and a deciding factor will be if the Mouse is putting gay / trans shite in kids’ movies

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has succeeded far beyond what I ever thought it would.

I started reading Marvel comics in the 70's if not earlier. (They were 20 cents each when I started). Outside of the 60's cartoons with the catchy songs, all there was was some really sketchy television movies with what passed for Captain America and I think Thor. The Lou Ferigno Hulk was the high point.

The fact that technology and public tastes in movies has allowed for many quality offerings with high production values has been great. It can't last forever. Nothing does but I've enjoyed it immensely.
