Ed Norton and Sam Rockwell are just as good in dramas, and both have a lot more comedic range then Phoenix.

Gonna have to disagree about them being just as good in drama roles, although Norton is a lot tougher call, and I really like both of them. Comedic range, sure, but neither of those guys are pulling off a role like Walk the Line, The Master, Gladiator or Her as well as Phoenix

Pitt is a good actor, but he’s not quite on the level of a Bale, PSH, Phoenix, etc. imo

Ed Norton in Primal Fear, American History X, and 25th Hour stacks up to anything Phoenix has done short of The Master, and I'm not going to let 1 role be a decider. Phoenix couldn't have pulled off Rounders or Moonrise Kingdom.

Throw Casey Affleck in the mix too.

Rockwell is probably a step behind, Oscar notwithstanding, but the guy is good in everything.

Burn after Reading

Meet Joe Black

Fight Club

Kalifornia

Inglorious Basterds

Boom, there you go. Range.

JP is the same mopey character in all his movies but people give him a pass because he's edgy.

Never said he didn’t have range. And I think Pitt is underrated as a comedic guy, loved him in Burn After Reading. I think he’s really good overall, just a hair below the top tier guys imo. There’s not really a wrong answer, it just comes down to opinion when comparing guys of that status

How do you not mention Gladiator?

Also, his most underrated role is probably Oliver Stone's U-Turn.

Leto is insanely overrated. Hanks is a better movie star than actor.

Absolutely.

Best out of any actor born in the October 28th, 1974 generation.

I am starting to come to the realization that Leonardo DiCaprio killed River Phoenix because he KNEW River would become the GOAT and hawk all DiCaprio’s roles and the only way DiCaprio and his overacting self could succeed was MURDER.

Hanks is not in the same generation as the rest of those guys. Hell, he had already won two Oscars when Jared Leto made his feature film debut.

Daniel Day Lewis by a country mile. Tom Hardy is a rising star.

You don’t think there’s a reason this board went 2 pages without mentioning him?

He’s almost 20 years older
