I liked the King Kong from a few years ago. That's a movie that really needed the CGI. It's trendy to hate CGI but some movies need it. Jaws obviously doesn't.

Overall I liked that movie too, and I liked the cgi they did with kong, but I think they went overboard with all the different creatures and dinosaurs (besides the T. rex) on skull island. I thought it was a blatant rip off of Jurassic park.

Yeah it kind of was. And for some odd reason I got a little pissed when Kong beat the T-Rex. I don't know why I thought he should lose that fight in his own damn movie.

It would've benefited from a realistic looking shark. There's one scene I remember where Bruce looks legit, and that's when he pulls down the guy in the canoe. Otherwise, while horrifying to see it in a FL theater in 1975, it's just laughably bad by today's standards.

That said, I can't imagine remaking this movie. It was a one-off.

Done well and not over the top CGI of course, but dramatic, intense and with a stellar cast keeping as much to the original as possible but putting a new fresh take on it.

This has been said about every shitty remake ever made while it was being greenlit

frick every bit of this post.

No, we don't need a new Jaws.

In fact we don't need a "new" anything.

What we need is original fricking ideas, not reboots and movies based on fricking toys or board games.

No. How do you generate shock value?

I'd be down for it if it starred Chris Pratt as Hooper.

Yeah, why don't we remake The Godfather while we're at it. The answer is NO FREAKING WAY!!! Leave sacred things sacred. The fact that they barely showed the shark in the original Jaws and the cultural effect, buzz and paranoia of water it created was nothing short of a phenomenon. It was true magical movie making. Original creations like Jaws, the original Rocky and The Godfather, and Saturday Night Fever are from the golden age of movie making. When movies were a major event that drove pop culture. Back when cinema was actual art.

Yeah, I don't know what a remake could do except add CGI.

In my opinion the best parts of the movie didn't have the shark in them.
Brody, Quint, and Hooper's scenes on the boat were golden.

Hell no, Jaws looks legit now as it did back then.

Animatronics blow away CGI when done right.

I remember watching a show on the making of Jaws. They wanted to show the shark a lot more than they did, but the machine gave them so much trouble they had to cut cut screen time. They said that actually made the movie much better. I tend to agree

Just in that one scene I mentioned does it look convincing.

They did the best they could, and they were dismayed by the difficulties. They had to minimize the shark face time, which actually made for a better movie even if they had had a great fake shark. The shark mostly didn't look real at all. It was beyond the technology of the time, and having to make it work at sea with the salt water, wind, and everything else made it all the more difficult.
