It's one of the only animated Disney movies to not really have a happy ending.

Have to agree.

But even some of the older ones pre-90s are solid. Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella (my all-time fav), Robin Hood, etc.

Ackowledging the classics of Disney animation noted in this thread, I would respectfully the following as a very underrated offering from Disney:

Lilo 'n Stitch

If I had to rank them

1) Beauty and the Beast
2) The Hunchback of Notre Dame
3) The Lion King
4) Frozen
5) Aladdin
6) Wreck-It Ralph
7) Pinnochio
8) Sleeping Beauty
9) Tangled
10) The Princess and the Frog

Disney has been on a roll recently, and glad to see how good they're doing again. Honestly, Frozen would probably be right under Beauty and the Beast if it were classically animated. It's still beautiful, but I can't help but feel it was a missed opportunity to be the most beautifully animated film ever, with only Miyazaki films as its equal. It's just really hard to impress me with 3D animation anymore really.

Anyone else ever notice that in Dumbo, whenever they show the map of the US, Alabama doesn't go to the Gulf?

Honestly, I really do think he's the best. The concept of te character is gold: a snowman who craves the heat of summer, completely oblivious to its meaning for him and really everything else. The Genie is the only one I think that is really in the debate with him.

Good movie. The problem was this and Treasure Planet came out around the same time and both looked like they were drawn by 12yr olds. There just isn't enough polish on them to rank them too high.

Lion King is #1 without a doubt. I had the good fortune of having small children when it came out, so we watched it on VHS hundreds of times. It will never get old to me and I'll always enjoy it.

Really? I found Olaf terrible. One one of the worst sidekicks since the Gargoyles, the very things that bring down the greatness of Hunchback.

The Broadway show is coming soon, maybe they are going to start bringing it back out to get people (and kids) more familiar with Jungle Book.

I probably drove my parents batshit singing "A Whole New World" from Aladdin. Especially once my middle school choir teacher decided to do a Disney arrangement. That and Little Mermaid's "Kiss the Girl".

I found the guy hilarious, and its not as if his presence completely clashed not only with the tone, but the story. Hunchback would have been a perfect film without them, but sadly they severely frick up the perfection that it is.
