Is Ethan Hawke severely underrated?

He's in a lot of different, interesting movies. Even if the movie isn't good, he usually is. And you look at what he's done and the fact he's never mentioned at all, id say he certainly is.

Gattaca is a great movie. I think that's probably my favorite that he has been in.

He's extremely well regarded among movie buffs and Hollywood directors.

Linklater certainly knows how to get the best out of him. He's ok otherwise.

I think he is hit or miss but largely pretty great. I agree he is not as respected as he should be.

I didn't think much of him until Boyhood. He walked away with an amazing performance in that one.

Before trilogy blows Boyhood out of the water, highly recommended. Him and Delpy developed the characters along with Linklater. They were Oscar nominated for original screenplay for Before Midnight.
