Why are USC and ND playing near Christmas?

Huge detail missed

The original script was set during Thanksgiving.

Notre Dame generally plays at USC during Thanksgiving weekend.

But they changed the setting to Christmas and the lazy Hollywood producers kept that scene in the movie...which you would think, being in L.A. they'd know that everyone would say...why the hell is USC playing Notre Dame around Christmas? They certainly wouldn't be playing in a bowl game against each other...not back then, after playing each other in the final regular season game.

What I like about Die Hard is that the action hero in the movie isn't some suped up body builder. He looks like he could be one of us - just a normal cop with normal problems who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He bleeds, he bruises, he has legitimate fears of never seeing his wife and kids again, and he is matching wits with a very competent antagonist.

Alan Rickman deserves Rookie of the Year for that movie. Crazy to think that was his film debut.

Game was pushed back to Christmas due to COVID-87.

It’s the quintessential action movie in my mind, has all the beats you look for and invented many of the tropes still seen today.

Plus Gruber is an all time great villain

If it ain’t perfect, it’s as close to it as a movie will ever get.

Yeah, it’s very good, but no such thing as a perfect movie.

I can think of only one flaw, and that's the Harry Ellis character. Character works in theory but is too annoying on screen and its neither shocking nor fulfilling when he gets killed. Just felt like a waste of a couple minutes to me.

Everything else is about perfect.

Die Hard isn't even McTiernan's best film. I'd say Predator is more "perfect" as an action film than Die Hard.

Although Die Hard looks much better with Jan DeBont's signature style, but Die Hard, for me, is just a touch too slow to get going. Predator is a tighter film and a slight notch better to me.

Die Hard did though inspire an entire action sub-genre.. "Die Hard on a train" "Die Hard on a boat" etc., so it's probably more impactful overall.

Wrong.

“Just like fricking Saigon! Eh slick?” is one of the most underrated parts of this movie. Always cracks me up.

For years I refused to watch Die Hard because the only thing I knew B Willis from was Moonlighting and thought there was no way I could buy him in an action film.

It's really the perfect action movie...plenty of action but still a real story...not over-the-top crazy action like The Raid or shite like that.

There's nuance, there's tension, there's buddy-cop thing going on who are in it alone...save the Feds finally who play the perfect, we're Feds, we know better than you, get out of our way.

Great villain, great ending, even punching the reporter, everything is perfectly balanced.

That's also what enhances the everyman aspect of it. The Honest Trailer for DH called Willis the "guy who looks like your dad."

like how at the start of the movie somebody on the plane sees his gun and he's all "It's ok, I'm a cop" and they're like oh ok carry on.

Yea dude. It was the 80s. Everything was okay.

Like in Home Alone 2, they just let him board the plane with no boarding pass. Everyone was honest and genuine back then.
