It’s a funny one, but not in the realm of the GOAT for me.

I’d say The Hangover is the movie I laughed the most at in the theater. Did not expect it to be so great.

As far as greatest though, I’d go with Holy Grail, Spaceballs, or Blazing Saddles. The latter especially stands out today as it would NEVER be made now.

In terms of laugh out loud funny, it has to be up there. I think only Dumb And Dumber, There's Something About Mary made me laugh as much.

By far the funniest movie I’ve seen.
Saw it in the theater and have never laughed so hard in my life. My son forced his friends to watch it recently (a diverse group of high school nerds), but they just didn’t get it. It’s my son’s favorite, though.

My other favorite comedies are Team America: World Police, Superbad, Tropic Thunder, and This Is The End.

The old ’’classics’’ like Blazing Saddles just aren’t funny to me. One of my favorites from my youth was The Jerk, and I made my son watch it with me recently. I was embarrassed by how un-funny it was.

Borat is the GOAT.

May not be even close to the greatest comedy but Sasha Baron Cohen does have the biggest balls of all comedians... and I think his talent is unquestionable if you see him in enough film.. Movies like Airplane, Caddyshack, Animal House, and Shaun of the Dead have a hard time keeping my attention. "The Jerk" was funny in its day but I find comedy becomes dated more quickly than other genres.

I did think "Four Lions" was funny as sh#t, though...brilliant, as comedy goes.... the only "comedy" that I've wanted to see more than once in many years. I also love watching Jonah Hill's acting in any movie. "War Dogs" and "The Wolf Of Wall Street" were pretty funny IMO and he's great in "Money Ball" and "Jump Street" movies.

Your post reminds me of this.

quote:

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. ??

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid ??

Only Borat captures the spontaneous comedy of the tragi comedy that is modern existence that can't be scripted or rehearsed. Pure id. No filter. No acting, just reacting. Its not a piss on America, its a piss on the world.

All of this could be true, but has nothing to do with how funny it is. Maybe it's the most realistic comedy, but that doesn't make it the greatest.

I don't know how great a movie (shock comedy) will stand the test of time...I don't think it will honestly unlike mockumentaries (Cohen seems a product of his times - Jackass, reality TV, etc.

But the effort he put into his comedy is pretty impressive and pretty gross. That 69 scene with that fat hairy dude is the grossest scene in probably movie history.

Dude is a freak but sells out for his humour I guess.

I could name 50 funnier movies right now and that list would include Schindler's List.

Borat is a fricking terrible movie. It barely functions as a movie. Cohen is a very smart guy who has a very particular way of looking at comedy. That's why he went to clown school in France. But it doesn't translate to film. It's designed for bits and sketches, not a 90 minute movie.
