Is Alex Murphy’s death on Robocop one of the most gruesome deaths in a movie?

I saw Robocop when I was 8 and Alex Murphy’s death scared the shite out of me. The guy laughing the way he did while they were blasting him made me very uncomfortable. Red Forman then puts him out of his misery.

i dont know, but when i was a kid, the scene in road warrior when the feral kid's bladeboomerang chopped off all that guy's fingers and everyone just laughed at him fricked me up.

They had to edit it because the MPAA was going to give the movie an X rating for that scene alone.

Didn't one of the saw movies have to edit the final cut at like the last second because it was going to be rated NC17 due to gore

In retrospect it's fun to recognize the "you dumbass" father from That 70s Show as the bad guy.

IMO it's not even the most gruesome death in the movie.

The dude who has his skin melted by toxic waste turning him into some sort of mutant and then gets hit by a car causing his body to explode was much worse.

Bone Tomahawk cave scene....not as gruesome perhaps but more terrifying to me.

Times were different.

The headshot put it over the edge.

Now that's every kill in John Wick.

Melting people was considered camp. Headshots were considered ultra violence.

We've become too desensitized. It was considered too real and shocking at the time.

Toxic waste was considered movie death. Not visceral. Like how they almost gave True Romance an X-rating for Gandolfini's death because they said Patricia Arquette was too animalistic.

I also saw robocop when I was 8.

Somehow, back then my parents thought it completely ok to watch a man dismembered by machine gun fire...but if I saw one woman’s nipple it was the end of the world!

Same guy

Also same guy

Ed 209 giving a countdown and shooting that poor bastard scared me more than anything else in that movie.

What they did to Murphy in that scene was straight up savage.

Well, having seen the movie when I was young, I'm actually kind of glad that the origial R-rated version did the cuts. The scene was brutal enough.

The uncut version includes a full display of the right arm getting shot off and a much longer version of the finishing head shot. Didn't really need to see that to get the point.

This is straight up one of the only movie scenes I can remember as a kid that legitimately fricked me up for a few weeks.

It isnt even that bad looking back, but good lord I vividly remember being fricked from it.

Definitely a bit traumatizing for kids.

Though I think my parents were more worried about me seeing the boobs in the shower scene than seeing Murphy get blown to bits.

Ah, priorities.
