Very good movie. I love war movies in general. Like most have said, awesome cinematography. SPR remains GOAT tho.

Thought it was good not great. Actually a little disappointed considering I was expecting great.

One thing I noticed but don’t know about... were black soldiers integrated with whites in British Army combat units to the degree the movie depicts?

I’m not interested in a Poli Board fight, I just thought it was unusual given what I know about the US Army. Maybe the Brits were different?

To create drama.

When people do the right thing in movies = no drama.

A woman in a cabin in the woods hears a noise outside...

A) She stays put in the cabin, locks it up tight and cradles a shotgun in her arms.

B) She gets out of bed, wearing only a negligee, lights a candle and wanders outside the cabin to softly ask "Is somebody out there?"

I thought it was near great. Technically it’s a fantastic movie. Good enough to win Best Picture.

Story is good. Not great. But good.

As for the diversity issue... I thought it was about right. The soldiers in WWI on the British side were overwhelmingly white. But there were enough soldiers of other races to be represented in the movie as they were.

Britain and France were colonial powers and they did not hesitate to draw their colonial subjects into the fight. The thing to remember about colonialism is that it transformed the non-European world, but it also transformed the colonial powers. There’s no touching other parts of the world without being touched back.

This is especially prevalent after WWII, but it’s accurate to show its roots in the early 20th century, as in this movie.
