Especially if they really spent around $300M making Indy.

The numbers are deliberately opaque (and, frankly, I'm not sure how they get away with that with all the disclosure requirements for a publicly traded company, but whatever), but it is fairly certain the "gross" spend is likely high of $300m. They get the UK tax credits which could be anywhere from $40m to $60m, reducing their "net" production spend to around $250m or thereabouts. I'm not sure where this one will land.

PLUS marketing. Certainly for a film like this, they spent at least $100m maybe up to $125m on marketing. So, assume an "out the door" budget, including marketing to be around $350m to $375m, then this film lost around $170m to $200m at the box office. Money it cannot recoup because there will be no real physical sales, no toys, and it is going to Disney+ so Disney is just paying itself for streaming.

Movie was ok, better than crystal skull crap.

I felt like it should have been about the spear of destiny instead though.

The beginning, I thought, was great. very Indiana jones feeling and got me in a good mood to watch. then they cut to old man indy who was a broke down has been and it made me sad. then the movie is nearly 3 hours long I think which is absolutely insane.

I wish they had just made another nazi movie using the de-aged Ford and rolled on. I would have been fully on board.

We started watching it last night and turned it off after 20 minutes or so. Too much CGI and I don't want to see Indiana Jones as a sad old man. Hollywood needs to stop running these properties into the ground.

Turned it off right around the time Phoebe Waller-Bridge showed up…nothing against her, watched both seasons of Fleabag in two days.

Not in a good way.

It was a fine move. Way better than Crystal Skull. But it really wasn’t necessary. It wasn’t woke at all and PWB was fine.

So I kinda had this thought…if they really wanted to wrap up the story with Indy, they should have gone ahead and made it about the Ark. it’s been 40 years after Raiders which was set in 1936, so set in in 1976, and have the “bad guys” be evil military/industrial types trying to misuse it.

Indy ultimately helps to steal
It and return it to be buried somewhere in the desert. Could have been handled on 90 minutes or so.
