Impactful Movies

I got this idea from the Jaws thread. In the thread, it was discussed how great of an impact that movie had on its viewers - people were scared to swim in local pools much less the ocean.
What are some other movies that had a considerable impact on viewers?
Schlinder's List immediately came to mind.

I’m not following your reasoning here. If we’re going with something that had an impact on the behavior of a large segment of the population ala jaws how is Schindler’s list in the mix? Not knocking, just trying to figure out what you mean by impactful.

Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist had people rethinking their doubts of the existence of the Devil.
Clark Gable taking off his shirt in It Happened One Night and revealing that he wasn't wearing an undershirt supposedly hurt undershirt sales. (Snopes is undecided on that one.)

The Terminator. Pretty much every fear and reservation we have about the coming AI/Robot revolution has it's roots in this movie franchise. I'm not saying it's the only movie to make us think dark thoughts about this subject, but Skynet has become the word we use to express the idea of an AI gone bad.

More of a prediction, and that is Wall-E. It’s already been recognized as being ahead of its time. People will look back on that film and realize that we missed the warning.

Demolition Man. Its happening before our eyes.
No unexpected physical contact
No cursing or offending others without a fine.
No guns except in museums.
No gas cars
Cops are unarmed
Everyone’s a sensitive safespace pussy who needs a computer program to lift them up

We had a large cornfield behind our house. Signs made me stay the hell away from that cornfield at night.

That's a great example. Completely flew over my head. I read that ambulances were assigned to theaters all across the US, grown adults sleeping with the lights on, etc.
Highly, highly impactful movie.

Top Gun was basically a recruiting video for the Navy. they saw their enlistment increase about 500% after the movies release

Well obviously Psycho...my parents said people didn't want to take a shower.
They apparently had warnings at the theater. That the movie might cause heart attacks or fainting spells.
How Psycho changed Cinema
"They [audiences] had never seen anything quite like it before - the total shock of killing off a lead character a third of the way in, and just the complete feeling of disorientation," says Michael Brooke, Screenonline curator at the British Film Institute.
In the UK, Pyscho was given an X rating.
Now it has a PG-15 rating.

Idiocracy - but it is not going to take 500 years.

The opening to Saving Private Ryan reportedly had a huge emotional impact on actual d-day veterans.
To the point that some had to leave the theater rather than finish the movie.

The most moving opening I have ever seen.

supposedly the world trade center high wire scene in "the walk" with joseph gordon levitt gave 3D viewers vertigo in the theater, to the point where vomit was induced.

When you're brought up Catholic and repeatedly told that the Devil is real... and then this movie comes out and you are once again told, "Yes, this is real"... doesn't matter how old you are.

So people were afraid to time travel to WW2 era Europe?

I've heard similar about Black Hawk Down and JSOC & Ranger battalions.
