Downey credits Mel Gibson for getting him through it. From an awards speech in 2011 quote:“When I couldn’t get sober, he told me not to give up hope and he urged me to find my faith. It didn’t have to be his or anyone else’s as long as it was rooted in forgiveness. And I couldn’t get hired, so he cast me in the lead of a movie that was actually developed for him and he kept a roof over my head, and he kept food on the table.”

That’s awesome. Somehow I didn’t know any of that re RDJ and Gibson.

Seems like a good dude too. When the woke mob/media came for Pratt for whatever reason RDJ actually told them to back the frick up because Pratt was a legit good person and if they’re coming for dudes like him they may as well throw stones at everyone.

He may be vegan or whatever, but his politics are probably closer to this board's majority more than any SUCCESSFUL actor working today

I feel like he basically played himself in Less Than Zero.

Honestly, he never had a chance - his Dad was an addict who let him use drugs in the home at a very early age.

These were in 2009 and 2010. Nothing I saw suggested Hemsworth would be a draw, or even land a leading role. Then came Thor in 2011, and the MCU... and dude's a superstar.

Hemsworth’s big break, at least in Hollywood circles, was Cabin In The Woods. Seeing his performance, albeit before the film released due to MGM’s bankruptcy, got him Red Dawn and Thor IIRC.

Probably helped that Joss Whedon was involved with Cabin and later directed The Avengers.

He’s talked about how that film was where things went from doing drugs on his off hours to where it really consumed his life.

His performance and The Bangles’ cover of Hazy Shade of Winter are the main redeeming qualities of a shite show considering the did an extremely loose adaptation of a great book.

He has a good but woke series on restoring some cars called dream cars. Cool mods but he talks too much about global warming. But worth the watch

Haven't seen the show because car shows don't interest me but isn't that the premise of the show. Taking old school cares and making them more environmentally friendly

He was really good in Zodiac too, which came out the year before Iron Man.

It got dumped on, but i rather enjoyed the Judge with him and Duvall as well.

He's a little weird and out there, but i've appreciated a lot of his comments on cancelling and being a bit more nuanced on some political issues than most of Hollywood. His speech for Mel Gibson showed a side of hollywood I wish we saw more of.

RDJ can play anything. He should have multiple Oscars by now, but he doesn't. It's a shame. The guy is a meteoric talent

RDJ is arguably the best actor of his generation. He was already a huge movie star by the early 90’s. But he was troubled and I expected him to OD at some point back then.
