Just out of curiosity how is this show so highly rated and one of the most watched (I think it was #1 recently) on tv and receive bad reviews from yall? A whole lot of people on here bash it, but also support other great series that are highly rated. So what gives?
I said outright in the OP that I've been an avid watcher and fan since day one but have grown tired of it.
I think it could be much better, but it's starting to be marginalized by the writers resorting to tired sitcom cliches. I was really hoping they wouldn't stoop to the "will they or won't they" melodrama that a lot of sitcoms end up resorting to with a male and female lead who are friends.

I really enjoyed watching this show occasionally. I do not watch every episode and I believe it would become stale if I did. I'm glad I've never tried to really watch this show more than when I see it on TV, and I'll likely keep it that way.

I am still thoroughly enjoying it. Laughed quite a bit so far this season.

This seems like a lot of words to explain why you will stop watching a television show. Mine usually go like this - "eh, I think I'm done with this show".

I still follow the show as well. It's obviously not as good as it was in the past but most shows fall off with time.

I've always found Penny a fairly obnoxious, offensive character. She's inherently stupid and never strives to be anything other than a waitress that, prior to her relationship with Leonard, partook in copious one night stands. The only reason Leonard is with her is because he thinks he'll never do any better, which is out of desperation. Much like how the audience is laughing at the guys for being nerds, they're laughing at Penny for being stupid.

The show is edited and paced for a laugh track. Not a fair comparison to shows that are created knowing that there would be no laugh track.

i dont watch shows with laugh tracks

Mayim Bialik's character has held up best on the show.
People just get comfortable watching certain shows. It's why some shows stay on past their prime.
The praise for Jim Parsons is starting to wear thin. Even he is a bit embarrassed by the Emmy wins at this point. Sort of like when David Hyde Pierce kept winning when he new there were new actors on new shows that should've been there, but the voters like voting for old favorites.

And in before "nerd blackface".

Gave up on the show a long time ago. Penny and Leonard are totally unbelievable as a couple, and the laugh track is insufferable.

Not really, I know several betas that found a woman to steamroll them in their personal life. Very similar to the Penny character with booze, poor career and personal choices, and they seek out a sucker like some of my old high school friends who have money and don't have a backbone.

This show has been terrible from inception.
Agreed.

Yeah, that's one thing about the show that I don't think they've done a good job with. Leonard is a brilliant, highly accomplished and respected scientist -- why is he grovelling for the affection of a failing actress/waitress who's dumb as a rock? Penny is lucky at this point to have someone in her life who is educated and decent. What's her alternative? Go back to Nebraska?
I think the only time they really ever dealt with it and dealt with it well was in two separate but oddly similar episodes: when Penny's dad came in town and the second time Leonard's mother came in town. Penny has to lie to her dad that they're still together because he was so happy she was with someone like Leonard who was smart and vastly different from her normal cohort of loser boyfriends. Leonard has to lie to his mother because he doesn't want her to know that he's dating a waitress with a room temperature IQ instead of someone cut from the same socioeconomic and intellectual cloth.

I watched it once or twice. It just seemed like a couple of gay guys trying to get pussy.
Didn't make any sense to me.
I guess they are just supposed to be socially awkward; but they just seemed gay to me.

Y'all need to watch Silicon Valley instead. MUCH better 'nerd' show and it's not even close.

Not defending the show by any means, but even shows like Seinfeld feel awkward with the laugh track removed.
