Why Displaced, does this mean we're not friends anymore? You know DB, if I thought you weren't my friend I just don't think I could bear it.

i dont think a single person in this thread is shitting on Tombstone. it's a great movie.
Just saw my bat-signal. You rang?
It’s #1 as my pick for the most overrated western ever. It’s like watching a bunch of high school theater boys play their costumes instead of their characters.
It seems amateurish, cartoonish, and campy. It’s for kids. Kind of like milk chocolate and Canadian Whiskey.
When I'm scrolling and see it on, I stop to watch - but only long enough to find the next scene that will lead me to roll my eyes and mutter something irreverent about how the dregs of cinema fandom can possibly advance a plausible narrative about this being a great movie. Yes I understand that some people love it. But it seems to me that these are the same people who love the latest Star Wars trilogy.
Tldr version:

I'm starting to feel safer coming out as someone that doesn't love every second of Tombstone.
The great scenes are really, truly a lot of fun to watch, and arguably Kilmer at his best. But man there are some pretty damn cringey scenes too.

However, I have a large group of friends/acquaintances for whom this is their Godfather or Goodfellas, and I just can’t put it on that level or even in the same tier.
Godfather and goodfellas are not in the same tier.

Heathen!
Only kidding. While it's not a history, it's a fairly accurate representation of what really happened (understanding that events depicted are somewhat apocryphal). For a long time, I did not know that Johnny Ringo, Curly Bill, and Sheriff Behan were real people.
There's no consensus on who killed Johnny Ringo. The "official" story is that he died by suicide with a single gun shot wound to the temple (odd place to shoot yourself), but the movie leaves open three of the possibilities (suicide, shot by Doc, shot by Wyatt Earp).

One of the reason I love Tombstone is because it's so different than most modern westerns. Westerns in the last couple decades tend to be ultra realistic, while Tombstone is very over the top and bombastic. It has a pulp/comic book feel to it that I adore, despite its flaws.

Join the club. The water is great.
In my head, Tombstone lovers hate Tarantino movies, love DC/Marvel and any Star Wars after the 2.5 that are worth a damn. They love the Three Stooges, Pauly Shore, and have seen Corey Feldman live in concert.
There are retards among us with highly questionable taste. But let’s tread lightly and stick together . They might represent 50+% of this OT-adjacent forum.

Found the Adam West Batman fan.
Let me guess, the best James Bond movie is Moonraker, right?

Tombstone lover checking in.
Top 3 director all time for me.
Would be completely fine if they never made another Marvel movie. Do love Batman though.
Would be even more fine if there was never another Star Wars show or movie. And people only like the prequels because the new stuff sucked so bad they pretend the prequels were good. The majority of Star Wars is bad.
Never watched it.
I think Bio-Dome is the only PS movie i've ever seen and don't remember anything about it.
Yea, negative.
So, you're opinion of those that love Tombstone is probably pretty off. Tombstone is a popcorn western, it's not trying to be a Tarantino film. It's got some fun action, good characters, very rewatchable, and extremely quotable. All that adds up to some pretty good entertainment. And that's sometimes all you need in a movie.
I completely get why someone wouldn't be a big of Tombstone, but to have such an odd opinion of those that like it is just weird. I know you thought you sounded cool there, but you just sound like a douche really.

This sounded a lot better "in your head" too.
I love Tombstone. I don't think it's high-level cinema or anything, but it's insanely quotable and tons of fun (even if rushed at the end as someone pointed out earlier). I think somebody nailed it on the head when they said it's basically one of those 80s/90s action type movies in a western setting. That's pretty accurate (if albeit simplified).
To clarify your points above, I love Tarantino movies. I liked about half of the Marvel movies up through Endgame and haven't really watched anything since except for Spiderman finally. I enjoy Star Wars for what it is but wouldn't care if they ever made another movie or show (never seen any of the shows). Never watched Three Stooges, Pauly Shore is awful (Biodome is solid, but not because of him), and I've enjoyed some videos of Corey Feldman, but not for the reasons you seem to think.
I don't even care that you don't like Tombstone. But you're elite-level gayness about the people that do like it is....strange.

Did you eat it with a pizza while watching it?
