I watched “Gods of Egypt” last night

I don’t know why, I just felt like checking it out.
It was obviously a CGI money grab, while the story wasn’t exactly Shakespeare, it was better and more fleshed out than I expected. I found myself actually rooting for the protagonist (Bek) and his girl to make it.
Now onto the gods, since it’s such a silly movie, it was easy for me to get past the fact that these Egyptian gods were all British, American, or Scottish, even if it did make a lot of the Egyptian religious scenes seem very odd.
The story being told it’s not even close to the ancient religious myths, but I was actually pleasantly surprised about how the gods were portrayed. It seemed as if they did try to have the gods act in ways that were true to their description by the ancient Egyptians.
And although the story itself is not a real Egyptian myth, it was at least based in some actual Egyptian myths, and I felt like it was a “plausible” story that could fit in with the “real” story of Set vs. Horus.
Overall, it was a cheesy CGI fest, but it was better than what I was expecting, and I did actually care about the story which I did not expect to do.
It’s worth checking out as a mindless action movie as long as you don’t take it seriously or expect to be blown away by story and character arcs

I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago and this sums up exactly how I felt. Has a rewatchable quality too.

I went into this one expecting to hate it, and I didn’t. I was pretty surprised.

Totally cheesy. Very Fun. Gerard Butler overacting his arse off as an Egyptian gangster god with a Scottish Brogue was the best.
Pretty to look at as well. CGI just splooged everywhere.
I've seen it about 3 or 5 times.

I enjoyed it when it came out but the cgi was all over the place in it. Some parts were genuinely great and others were like holy frick what lemon head made this scene?

It deserves it. The plot of the movie, the overacting, the crazy CGI, and the actors they chose was almost like they were trying to make a parody of Egyptian mythology. Yet somehow they made a quality movie

I put it in John Carter and Prince of Persia category. Not a world beater but a fun, rewatchable movie.

Like you said, it’s pretty much a bad movie but I too enjoyed it. The cast was just good. I’m really starting to think Coster-Waldau is very underrated, Gerrard Butler and Chadwick Boseman were good too and of course Geoffrey Rush is a given. Also Cortney Eaton is so hot it isn’t hard to watch her on screen.

Sometimes you have to go into a movie with an attitude of just having a good time or laughing at how awesomely bad it is.
