I’m happy people are excited for it. I’ll watch it.

But

Everything I’ve seen from the trailers looks just so much like a CW show. There is nothing that looks exciting about it.

Even by the design of their clothes, I just feels flat.

The latest trailer looked amazing to me. I was lukewarm on the teaser.

It is like a cross between GOT and LOR.

The thing is both LotR and GoT did have some aesthetic vision they were able to carry out. I don’t see that at all. I feel like I’m watching people playing dress up here. Maybe I feel differently when watching it but so far they’re doing a bad job of showcasing it m.

I hear you. It's got a kind of Snow White and the Huntsman vibe to it. I know people who were obsessed with the books. I'll have to get their opinions when this comes out.

The new trailer is much more action focused would be my guess though I don’t want to speak for him.

But I want my fantasy action to be…. Well fantastic.

This looks like someone is LARPing.

I’d love someone to be able to actually do the mood of fantasy better. Peter Jackson did it well for the restrained Tolkien universe but he was somewhat limited.

I’d love people push towards how most fantasy art is nowadays

I agree. First trailer looked CW level. Second gave me more hope.

I am hoping that they’re faking us out by making it look entirely about the AES Sedai and not the 3 boys, but I’d expect to be SJW disappointed

The casting is terrible. It has a cheap B-series TV sitcom look. They spend painstakingly more effort into ensuring that no two people in a frame share the same ethnicity than they do to the source material. This will be horrendous.

How you know when race matters to someone...

That being said people expecting Game of Thrones, shouldn't. Martin's ability to craft stunningly realistic and unique characters and to do it for every one of them- both main and bit parts is in no evidence in the books I've read of the WOT series. However, it is still entertaining.

Well the books describe the appearances of the characters and those descriptions differ than what we see for some depicted main characters. So apparently race is what mattered to the show creators. But of course the show is expensive and has to appeal to as wide an audience as possible so I understand the desire to change up ethnicities but for a book reader it will take getting used to.

From L to R

Nynaeve, Rand, Lan, Morgain, Egwene, Perrin, Mat?

I literally haven't touched the books since the last one dropped, and I'm drawing these conclusions. Nynaeve's braid is prominent. Lan has the headband, and Manethren was always very Asiatic to me? Morgaine is dressed in the clothes of the Blue Ajah. She looks a little tall, I seem to recall her height, or lack thereof, being emphasized. Perrin is a burly boy. Mat just looks like Mat. Rakish and like a guy who would play some dice. Edit: Is that a a dagger on his hip? Makes sense. That leaves Rand and Egwene, and I can figure that out by process of elimination.

I'll grant you it doesn't look incredibly high budget, but if they nail it in season 1 and get the numbers they need, I'd expect budgets and production value to increase.

My question is more about what they do with things like Dumai's Wells, or the cleansing of Saidin. That's the shite I want to see done well. Make it incredible. The scope and scale demand that. I'm not expecting this to be a home run, but if it is, well, pleasantly surprised.

I think you have Mat and Rand switched. I think Rand is far right.

The costumes are terrible and they all look way too pristine. I’ll check it out but the CW vibe is spot on. They look like they’re all about to shoot a magazine cover in every scene.

Good catch, the hair and height should have given it away.

They looked fine in the full trailer.

The teaser was clearly not touched up and some of the scenes in that look very different in the full trailer. The picture above is clearly a promotional still.

Yeah, Rand is definitely the ginger.

Ethnicity doesn't bother me too much in a fantasy world not based in our reality.
