Argo is third out of those 3 for me as well.

I left off a few words in my last post. I was talking about enjoying Argo's ending more, not the movie itself (because I did like it).

I have them like Charleaux:

ZDT put me in a coma about half way through. It was ok. Last 15 minutes was worth it.

Django sucked black cowboy balls. How people say its one of his best is beyond me.

Argo I liked but it drug on a bit.

While Django might not have been the best movie of the 3, it entertained me more than the other 2 if that makes any sense

Yeah, it does.

Django - awesome
Argo - solid
ZDT - meh
This is how I feel. Django was enormously entertaining. Argo was a good movie but nothing special. Zero Dark Thirty dragged horribly for me.

ZDT's story had to be told. And it was such a pivotal part of recent US political and military history that it was just important. And the movie carried that weight around...there was pressure to not frick it up. And I think it was outstanding

Agreed, but

Overrated? I don't know, not to me.

It was to me. That should not take anything away from the quality of the film, it was very well done. But I honestly think this was a very average year for movies. It shined in a very average year.

I haven't seen Django yet, but thus far out of my Oscar views, SLP was my fav followed by Argo.

would probably go Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty and then Argo.

Agree with this.

First off, I like the duck.

Secondly, this is one of the reasons I don't like strict competition among movies. Really, all three movies are of pretty even quality and whatever order you have them in is pretty valid. I can't complain about Argo winning Best Picture, but it wasn't a slam dunk winner. It was a year of a lot of good films, but no great ones (though I could make an argument for Looper or Seven Psychopaths)

Anyway, Argo was a competently made big budget studio prestige film. It was a well made movie for grown ups who don't really like art films. I think middlebrow gets used a pejorative, but Argo is a middlebrow film, and is all the better for it. We need more quality middlebrow films.

Off topic, but was this good? I really wanted to see it and heard nothing of it, unless I was living under a rock. I may watch this weekend.

I thought it was good, even if a little long. I certainly didn't think it was "best movie of last year" good though.

To include your other two movies, ZDT was good but severely overrated on this board IMO. Django was just "pretty good" like someone said last week. Disappointing Tarantino effort IMO.

I enjoyed all three movies though.

Pretty much agree with this but Django is not even in the same league as the other 2 movies in terms of what makes a movie great: plot, writing, acting and directing.

I loved it, but I'm a sucker for films that are about writing. It's essentially a movie about writing, which is admittedly inherently uncinematic. But it also has Walken being Walken and Sam Rockwell in a completely unhinged role. I found the film to be an interesting experiment. It's also funny as hell.

And yes, Cajun Rev, my opinion is respected on this board, which is why someone asked for my advice on renting a movie. I also don't toe the company line on things and have my own opinions on things, which can be divergent from the consensus. Though, of course, sometimes I agree with the consensus, too. But I don't get all pissy when someone has a different opinion than me. In fact, I welcome it. Variety is the spice of life.

I can like ZDT, Django, and Argo all for wildly different reasons.

Well I can respect that, I just wouldn't put those two in the same level as ZDT or Argo

Argo was not as good as I thought it would be.

I thought it was a good, but not great film.
