Yeah it’s really just a handful of scenes or events that suck for the most part.
Much of the hate is relative to expectations.

UPDATE: took about 5 days to get through watching episode 1...just a terrible movie with Power Rangers production quality. I was pulling for Jar Jar Binks to be shot and killed in battle scene at the end. Worst cinematic character ever.

it dawned on me about half way through episode one that these new movies were geared towards 8 year old kids...

recently rewatched episode 4
man its really good. except for the effects it's barely aged. it's clever and just enjoyable to watch.
its so weird for disney to trip all over themselves for their strong female character like they had to 'make up' for something. why is kathleen kennedy so obsessed with sticking it to the men (in other franchises as well) when Leia was doing that shite from the very first movie?
She got captured but it didn't stop her from talking mad shite to Tarkin and Vader, literally got tortured, still talking mad shite and fighting, she was great in every single movie, gruesomely chokes out supervillain jabba the hutt for fricks sake while managing to look good.
Writing skills, critical thinking, and respect for the audience have all really fricking regressed in moviemaking. maybe that's one of the reasons why the OT holds up so well

Because they don't want to just elevate women above men, they want to beat the strong male reluctant hero type character into sissy submission.

I still remember going to see Episode 1 in the theatres with some buddies, all of us grew up huge Star War fans. After the movie we were talking, trying to convince ourselves it was a good movie, then the look on our faces when the reality set in that The Phantom Menace was a bad movie. Had some cool scenes, but just a bad movie.
But there is hope still, they're making 2 more movies! Yeah, it just got worse in 2.

Huge SW fan. Was there opening night for EP1. In the first 10 minutes I knew something was off..way off and it just got worse and worse. EP2 is pretty much the same. EP3 is better .
