Holy shite what a movie.

Brando turns in possibly the greatest acting I’ve ever seen.

Must watch for any film buff.

Damn.

Yes, it’s amazing. Karl Malden is fantastic also. One of my all time favorites.

Tremendous picture.

Brando gets all the attention and who can criticize that performance. But Karl Malden is brilliant. Malden’s speech to the workers is a force to behold.

“This is my church! And if you don’t think Christ is down here on the waterfront, you’ve got another thing coming!”

I don’t remember much other than I was very disappointed in the ending of the movie. In the end, I felt like there were no consequences to the movie.

The "I coulda been a contender" scene is great and of course iconic, but that Malden scene is easily the best scene in the movie imo.

I've been telling that anyone who will listen for the last 40 years or so.

One of the best black and white movies ever and the most solid cast you could think of.

A film of perfection IMO.

Brandon's peak. He was compared back then with James Dean and others and he blew them all away.

The film is one of the best acting clinics in cinema.

Raging Bull's homage to Waterfront is one of the GOAT movie tributes.

As good as Brando was (and I tend to agree, this is on the very short list of what to show folks who want an example of fantastic film acting), the surrounding cast was just hitting on all cylinders as well. Elia Kazan (dirty commie or not) was an actors' director (all that theater experience certainly helped) and tended to maximize the abilities of his cast and the cast of this film was out of sight.

The vote was so split for the Supporting Actor Oscar that year, Lee Cobb, Karl Malden AND Rod Steiger were all nominated for On the Waterfront, chalking up 3 of the 5 nominations (lost to Edmund O'Brien for Barefoot Contessa).

Obviously this was probably Kazan's best film and the best performances of Brando and Saint. Kaufman's cinematography for this film is probably the best black and white cinematography by anyone not named Gregg Toland or Russell Metty.

Top 5 all time movie for me. Like you all said, every facet of this movie was professionals at the top of their game. I recently watched this and The Hustler and just marveled at every single person pulling their weight every scene which is so rare.

One of my all-time favorites. Great cast with Lee J. Cobb, Karl Malden, Eva Marie Saint, Brando, Rod Steiger and a young Fred Gwynn before his TV stints in "Car 54 Where Are You" and "The Munster's"

I've seen it at least a dozen time, if not more over the years.

Everything about this movie is great. Leonard Bernstein did the amazing score, it’s the only movie score he ever did

Sorry, it did little for me. Good acting but boring and not much substance, to me. Not a fan of 50s acting styles and these angst movies. Also didn’t care for neither Streetcar Named Desire nor Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Not saying they weren’t fine films but just didn’t get all the hype. But I did enjoy Elmer Gantry and The Rainmaker from that era. Always thought Burt Lancaster > Brando.
