As a Calvinist I LOVED this movie.

Louisiana humidity?
It's not about crap like that. It's about a man's strained faith. His love of his CHILDREN and family and God's intervention on a one on one level in a man's life.
So as long as a movie has a good heart warming message, one should set aside the absurdities of the plot and storyline? What?
If the movie was ACTUALLY that good, it would have been able to convey the intended sentiments with a plot that makes sense. That is what perhaps separates the quality of good versus not so good films, no?

Due to the fact that it cost like $1500 for two people to go to a movie these days

Always been one of my favorite movies.
The tone, the pacing, and atmosphere are just perfect. Now I really want to watch it.

Pretty much this. The Sixth Sense was good and Unbreakable was ok, but Signs, The Village, and The Happening were some bad films. Good ideas but terrible plot and really bad endings.

Seriously, wtf did this guy do to get this board so enthralled with him? I mean inception and angels in the outfield were good, but does he deserve the praise the movie/TV board grants him?

bullshite. I'm sorry that you are one of the kids that thinks action should take precedence over story and theme. The modern audience is the reason we can't have science fiction with challenging themes.
...and don't forget the Lady in the Water. The lady is only in the water for 5 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE!!!!1111!! OMG. I EXPECted a Bitch IN A bikI!!!1 Instead I GOt a FAIRy TAle!

I can't tell if you're trolling or not, but I 100% agree with this:
That's the whole point of the movie. It's about a man struggling to find/keep his faith and questioning everything after a huge tragedy in his life..all set against the background of an alien invasion.
People focus on the wrong things from the movie and they always have.
Also, everyone always makes assumptions about the aliens that are laughable. For example, "Why would they come to a planet that is 70% water when water kills them? STUPID!!!" Well, there are tons of places throughout the world where there isn't much water, and for all we know their bodies can withstand humidity and things like that. People just wanted a "holy shite" ending just like 6th Sense, and when they didn't get that, they got pissed off and started nitpicking.
IMO, the movie's ending is perfect. Everything throughout the movie came together at the end to restore Gibson's faith. The little girl only drinking half glasses of water meant there would be water all over the house. Merrill being a baseball star and hitting the homerun meant that the bat would be on the wall. Gibson's wife saying "Swing away" leads to it. The son having asthma meant he wouldn't inhale the poison at the end. Etc. Everything comes full-circle and gives Gibson what he needs to restore his once-strong faith.
Great movie IMO.

I always say to that argument, "Well, we want to colonize Mars in the near future. Go breathe an atmosphere with a large amount of CO2 and tell me how you feel after a couple of breaths."
Who is to say the aliens wanted to live on Earth? What if they wanted to mine it for raw material? What if they were looking for biological weapons (water) after their planet ran out so that they could carry on a prolonged war?
People that bash Signs for stupid shite like that are just simple people.

Excellent question.
And, frankly, although I'm in the minority, I sometimes wonder the same thing about "Leo", although I think he's a good actor.
