I might try that when I get home. I would like to see my son and my wife's reactions.

In my AP US History class in high school, I remember one time I reenacted the whole scene while we waited for the teacher to get to class
For a while after, I'd hear people on campus screaming "I've abandoned my child!" and it was awesome
old buddy from high school posted the scene on my wall a few weeks ago and was like "i will never forget"
I try it all the time to try and match the emotion and yelling power that DDL is able to use

I went to HS with the dude that plays DDL's counter part. He was in Girl Next Door and Little Miss Sunshine and other good flicks.
He killed it in his senior play.

I love that scene too.
I think the opening scene is equally as good. Like 10 minutes or so of no talking, just good film.
Milkshakers gonna shake.

I thought it was a great scene, mainly because the preacher was such an amazing piece of shite to Daniels in the church.
But I never understood DDL's character. His motivations were all over the place.

I saw limited parts of that movie, but the church scene was some pretty bad overacting.

I quote this scene to threaten people into signing a lease.

Pure greed and isolation. He is an embodiment of the turn of the century pure capitalism, and is consumed by it. Everyone is a pawn, even his "son", whom he sends away when he is no longer "useful", even though he shows true tenderness at times for him.
By the end he has been totally eaten away by greed, to the point he is an alcoholic shut in.

Because you only saw parts of the movie and didn't understand the scene. It WAS acting. It takes on a completely different power when seen in context.
