There is not a single grunge band on the Crow soundtrack. It is goth and industrial. It's all based on Joy Division, for godsakes.

Still sucks that Brandon Lee had to go.. would he have had a successful career in film following The Crow?

He was a bit wooden, but I think so.

I think "Boyz in tha hood" is up there though, for time period representation and overall solid "90s film".

Should have said grunge era. Early 90's.

And Stone Temple Pilots aren't grunge?

When people discuss Tarantino movies, they discuss the movie. His soundtracks do a good job of adding to the atmosphere but the movies still stand on their own. Its next to impossible to discuss The Crow without talking about the soundtrack because the movie isn't anything special. The acting, directing, writing, etc are all average.

The imagery is far more than decent. It was ahead of its time.

Doesn't mean shite. Fact is that Tarantino is often celebrated as much for his musical selection in his movies as he is for direction.

Not to mention Wes Anderson and Mark Mothersbaugh.

If not for the Crow, we wouldn't have gotten the later version of Sting in WCW.

No. and it was always silly they were lumped in with the Seattle bands. STP is far more of a glam band, and had little in common with the punk/stoner/metal hybrid out of Seattle. OK, maybe the heroin. I like STP, but they are not and never were a grunge band. That said, there never really was a genre called grunge.

The Crow is actually one of the first successful adaptations of a comic book. I don't hate it, but I don't think it's all that great of a movie. It's a nice way to kill two hours. But it can be seen, perhaps, as the inspiration to make Blade. And Blade is what got the Marvel machine up and running.

The movie was just average. The fact that anytime someone mentions this movie they have to talk about the soundtrack proves the movie itself isn't special.

And I counter with Singles

Yeah, I loved The Crow, but Singles is THE grunge film.

Singles is also a far batter movie.

I like your hat, and I don't mean that in an Eddie Haskell kind of way.

watch the youtube clip that I posted. Perfect song that essentially shows a 6 minutes trailer of the entire movie. Damn near perfect youtube video.

STPs first album had that grungy feeling, but I wouldn't have labeled them a grunge band.

More like a harder alternative. Same thing with the early smashing pumpkins.

Smashing Pumpkins certainly are not grunge...but they are essential 1990s nonetheless.
