How is Darth Maul not higher on lists of Star Wars badassery?

I dont know in depth about the lore and history of that universe. I get that Vader is the face for this story to so many and rightfully so. Vader and the Emperor are up there..but I cant think what other Sith could have given Vader trouble.
Reading over what he is capable of,..or just things that he has already done.
Just some of his info
Even just what we have seen on film, took part in a 2 on 1 fight against two jedi to his disadvantage..yet, still beats them without cheating or getting any help.
Get cut in half and refuses to die. Collects himself, rises to become leader of a huge syndicate. You didnt see Tyranus doing that. He's able to resist force lightning, windu and Yoda couldnt do that.
So to fans of the story, who care about the characters. They had to backtrack to bring him back to life..so, Do you respect his overall character and feel that he is where he belongs or, that they dropped the ball with TPM on what could have potentially been one of the best star wars characters of all time?

This. But also people don’t realize how badass he really is. He stalemated Obi Wan and Qui Gon and likely would have killed both if not for his arrogance

Because GL should have averted expectations and let him escape in someway after killing Qui Gon and let Darth Maul carry over into Episode 2 detailing The Clone Wars

What I was thinking (and I havent seen the final star wars film but have heard some spoilers)..
Since the "Snoke" character was basically wasted in ways, and they brought maul back in solo and then brought back the emperor..
I would have kept "Snoke" just mentioned in the first. Shoruded in the 2nd..maybe revealing it at the end when ben betrays him, but he lives..going into the 3rd film and ending with a 2 on 1 battle of Rey and Ben vs Maul. Having Rey come from Obi Wan and forced into hiding to protect her from Maul who is and has been looking to erase Obi Wan's entire existence.
They fight to an updated duel of fates as Luke finally gets a 1 on 1 with the emperor..using the light saber he tossed away.

He needs a Disney+ series or a role in a feature film (Solo sequel?)

Weren't all the light sabres mostly the same and his was the first non conforming double beam to appear on screen?

Mostly because all the stuff that came later. Fett had a lot of weird stuff attached to him too.
So they went from badasses to "we really have to scrub for the gems in this bantha shite."
Mail should have been the constant threat in the prequels. Fought him off for a loss of a Jedi. In the first, causes the slides for Anakin in the second, anakin takes over after defeating him in the third. The cost of it being the last thread cut to make him Vader.

Not gonna lie, I never had a problem with Darth Maul being killed off in Phantom Menace. People just get a boner for his double-bladed lightsaber and wanted to see more of it.

Yeah, but earlier in the film when it's a 1 on 1 he only ignites one side. And can apparently fight with a sabre in each hand too. Still cant get an advantage when its 2 on 1.
He fought mostly defensive in that, was constantly moving. Even had the high ground on obi wan.

Would have enjoyed that..think it still needs to be Obi Wan to force Vader into Hatred, but it would have been cool to have Obi wan, Anakin and Maul there. Have something happen that was never mentioned with maul, but is ultimately devastating.

Obi-wan does definitely need to be there.
It could have been something great. Anakin giving in to his anger. Obi-wan who had the original beef with Mail as the other side of the coin still seeking justice.
And after Maul is either killed or the body is lost out of sight. Then the Vader vs Obi-wan duel.
