this was discussed on page 2. it is his kids. The whole premise of the show is Bob Saget is telling the kids how he met their mom. "How I Met YOUR Mother"

And they have also called him "Dad" during the entire series when he is telling the story.

A few things. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is pretty accurate.
1. The kids have referred to him as Dad. I don't know who the mother is, but he is their father.
2. All indications are Ted has not met the mother yet. I'm not even convinced she has been cast.
3. I'm not sure it's been explicitly stated that Ted meets his mother at Barney's wedding, but I'm almost positive that will be when they meet.

Here are my thoughts. First of all, I think all the loopholes people are looking for are big reaches. I'm thinking there are simple explanations for why the writers seem to keep relapsing in their storytelling. In my opinion, those are:
1. They're not sure where they want to go from now, and they're trying to buy a little time.
2. They're afraid to make new developments, and they're trying to go with what's comfortable.
3. They're trying to milk the show as long as possible, so they're delaying major development.
In the end, it's a comedy. That's why I watch it. In the past, I've generally thought the writers have done well, but maybe they lack the creativity to end everything? Or maybe they're just stalling? To be honest, I can get past some weird developments as long as it's funny. I really feel like they sacrificed some humor for plot this season. The problem is, I don't think they've made much progress.

Matt and Trey
Nothing greater than ending that season with part 1, setting it up to be concluded at the beginning of season 2, and throwing in a random Terrance and Phillip episode in there first just to frick with everyone.

three or so episodes ago they show that in 3 years, ted has a daughter.

they are on a time limit. his kids look to be 15-16 ish and it is 2012. they are sitting on the couch listening to the story in the year 2030 and they usually keep current with the times.
unless they do a "that 70's show" type of thing where 6 or 7 seasons take place in a 3 year span.

Yes, but I could still seem them trying to buy an extra season. I'm just speculating, though.

Not to throw a wrench, or another conspiracy theory, but...he was just holding A baby...don't think it was stated it was HIS baby.
BOOM.

The executive producer creator thinks differently
.

Ultimately, we know that Victoria is not the mom. The audience knows that because he met the mom on Barney’s future wedding day

Isn't the mother name Tracy?
Remember that episode at the strip club, the stripper said actually I'm Tracy and Ted said " And thats how i met your mother"
And they said " WHAT?!!"
So they believed him because he said the mothers name but he was only kidding.
Nobody wants to discuss this?

I always assumed that they were more surprised that he was saying that their mom was a stripper. I guess it's possible that the name is Tracy.
