Amazing for like 4 episodes. The end of the season was a huge disappointment. They built up all these incredibly possibilities and story lines and it just ended up being the most obvious guy and all of those other things hinted at didn’t really mean anything.

I really don't get it. I tried it when it came out and got about three episodes in and was bored to tears and quit.

After seeing threads about it here lately I started it again last week and I'm up to Episode 5 but I'm just trudging through it because I find it slow moving and boring AF. When does it get good?

If you don’t like it by episode 5 then you’re just not going to like it. Surprising because I thought it was awesome. Mcconaughey and Harrelson were phenomenal

It didn’t really become obvious until the 6th or 7th episode though, no?

That was kind of the point. A true detective doesn’t chase the rabbit. They chase the truth. Most cases tend to have ancillary details that people lock onto that have no point in the overall case. Sometimes an open door is just an open door. You walk through it and it leads you nowhere.

Have to agree.

Fans love it for the acting exercise.

The story is meh and the payoff is even worse.

I have no idea what you’re talking about. I about shite myself at the end of season 7 when it ended up being Erol.

Back when it was playing there were some epic threads on the quality of the show.

Most everybody loved the first few episodes and I'd say a solid majority liked the rest, but there were a couple of dissenters (I seem to remember SFP in particular) that thought it went downhill pretty early on.

Great acting by the two leads. And of course Alexandra Daddario brought a certain aesthetically pleasing factor or two.

That's why people love season 1. And the tone and ambience.

But Nick isn't a good writer, see Season 2.

Storywise The Killing is better than Nick's True Detective.

It wasn't obvious.... but the guy who plays the Carcosa killer guy is an awesome actor in other stuff, mainly Boardwalk Empire which I had been watching around the same time, so when they showed him on the lawnmower at the school early on it did leave me to assume he would play a bigger role in the end.

Great show though, possibly the greatest season ever for a cop drama imo.
