I think that is part because, in the instance of three folks dressed like this and looking at a camera for a still photograph, it is cosplay.
When it is motion the costumes look more natural. But obviously there is no camera technology in time periods that these types of shows are based in, so three Targaryens taking a family photo like this just looks strange.

Daemon’s helmet looked like it was barely on 
and that round up scene seemed a bit try hard to bring grittiness to the show

I’ve enjoyed it well enough so far. Minor complaints and random observations that don’t really impact my opinion of the show yet:
The CGI dragon looked way worse than anything in GOT.
I think the Lord Hightower actor is trying too hard to sound like Tywin.
I guess it’s just his natural facial structure but Daemon looks more like an elf that should be in LOTR than in the GOT universe.
