Glenn Beck reviewed it and loved it. Won't repeat what he said about the beginning as I don't know the rules of the board, but said it wasn't "woke". And a great historical movie. He personally put Costner up with Eastwood and Wayne regarding westerners.

Wyatt Earp one of the most underrated westerns.

I just saw it yesterday. I thought it was fanatastic. Reminds me of "How The West Was Won" from back in the day but if they fleshed it out more. Can't wait for chapter 2

Maybe I completely zoned out or am an idiot.. but after reading the wiki synopsis..

I didn’t realize Will Patton and his band of 3 daughters out on the wagon trail… that was Frances ( Sam worthingtons love interest) father in law.. I guess I never heard them say the kittredge last name and put 2 and 2 together

I didn’t gather that wither from what they actually showed in the movie

After seeing opening weekend numbers I’m worried about parts 3 and 4

The movie, as others have said, is basically just a snap shot of “winning the west”….I thought the first hour was great. Ironically, as soon as Costner himself was introduced in the movie it began to drag. Overall, it was pretty good. Parts of it was great, but too many unnecessary scenes to call it anywhere near a great movie. On another note, I thought Luke Wilson was fantastic, and that shocked the shite out of me. I will go watch whatever parts make it to big screen, and I will stream the rest. The scenery alone is worth the ticket price.

Agree.

But like everyone else said, the scenery in my theater was not, lots of old people who didn't turn their phones off and lots of bathroom breaks

I went with my dad, who is 77….why are we disparaging the older crowd? Did that make the movie less cool? Did we hope the theaters would be filled with those trendy Y’s and Z’s? I enjoyed the movie just fine in spite of not being surrounded by folks obsessed with selfies, apps, and how not to pay their student loans. But that’s just me.

I wasn’t disparaging anyone. Just heard lots of dings the whole time. Ones phone announced all the texts she was getting including the name of who was texting her. Shannon sent lots of texts during our movie.

This is the first I’m hearing about those pesky elders and their phones…is this something new to bitch about? I wasn’t aware that the “younger” crowd was so polite and selfless. Great to know.

Is it possible this movie got off to a slow weekend but is starting to build momentum?

I hope so. I want this project to succeed, and I plan on watching all of them.

I think the honest portrayal of the native Americans probably has liberal movie critics losing their minds

I felt like the portrayal so far in the first installment of both the Native Americans and the settlers is pretty fair and balanced, but that probably is making the Libs of TikTok lose their shite

I saw it today, I was one of three people for a 10:40 am showing.

I really enjoyed it, especially since Westerns are one of my favorite genres. Good acting, great scenery, plenty of action and multiple storylines. I look forward to the rest of Horizon, I am curious to see which characters survive and what new characters are introduced.

Costner's character was not a typical badass like many western heroes in past films. He was no Blondie or Ethan, he came off like a capable man but not someone to be feared. The montage at the end seems to show him becoming one however.

Just got out and loved it. I will, however, agree the first hour is amazing then it does drag a bit but I did enjoy it. That first hour had me thinking this could me my movie of the year so far. Beautiful cinematography. And a big thank you for someone earlier in the thread giving a heads up on the ending montage, I hauled arse as soon as it started I didn’t want to spoil anything for part 2

Also, the old people in my theatre behaved themselves. I’ll take them over the youngsters snap chatting every scene and texting the whole time

One quick question: did they confirm that the husband and son of the blonde woman were killed in the raid? I remember the daughter not finding their bodies but wasn’t sure if we’re the assume they’re dead. It seems like if they were alive they would have came back for them in that crawl space

Also, I guess we’re also assuming the woman that was keeping the kid and was found during the “business deal” is dead too?
