didn't Nicholson kind of get himself killed in that movie by flirting with some really underage girls in a diner?
IIRC Nicholson's character is killed before the sequence in the Morganza LA diner w/the mirrors (alas, no longer extant)

The girls thought those baws were cool and the locals beat him to death for it.

Its a time and place movie... Like the old joke, I guess you had to be there.

Past my time, so I watched it once for curiosity, historical purposes but I don't get its value because that's not my moment and don't care to get it.

Same here. Haven't seen it since, but remember going into it with really high expectations and it being pretty cheesy and boring. Didn't like either of the main characters, so the final scene was fine with me.

That and it seemed like the movie was anti-establishment and counter-culture celebration. Either you dig the vibe or don't.

Funny/cool story bro - I was House of Blues to see Gatemouth Brown play and it was also a relaunch party for Indian Motorcycles in 1999-2000 ish. I was at the bar and this guy orders a drink next to me and I tell my wife, this guy looks like a dressed up Peter Fonda from Easy Rider. It was actually Peter Fonda in that flag jacket get-up. I later saw the American Chopper on display. He was the guest of honor.

Another 60's classic, I really don't get the love for The Graduate either.

It seemed like a lot happened, but nothing really happened. The bad guys were the good guys (hippies) and Louisiana trash were the bad guys. It felt like a movie that had no real intent or storyline.

Some of my mom's friends from high school are in the diner scene(filmed in Morganza).

That's all I got.

What was great about a lot of films in the late sixties and early seventies was the starkness of events and the simplicity of the main plot. A lot of these movies were either a character study of one person, or just involved the classic conflict categories: man vs man/ man vs nature/ man vs himself.
Easy Rider, Vanishing Point, Scarecrows, The Hustler, Soldier In the Rain. These movies are wonderfully stripped down to the basics.

My dad wanted to show me one of his favorite movies from his heyday so we watched East Rider. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I hated it.

It's probably the most overrated film of all time. Leftist Boomers love it, though.

By "Leftist Boomers" do you mean suburban teenagers who had Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper blacklight posters afixed to the walls of their nice suburban houses and the movie sountrack in the record collections?

Pretty much, I guess. Anyone that considered themselves part of the 'counter-culture' that was of a certain age in the late 60s seems to think of this film as some kind of masterpiece. It's not even close.

They weren’t born to follow.

I betcha after about 20 minutes, those ape hangers on Captain America’s sled sure got uncomfortable - much less going 1500 miles.

I saw it for the first time ever last night and it wasn't really what I expected. I had no idea it had a significant Louisiana component.

My take is that it's not plot driven, it's just an artistic depiction of an idea.

What do you imagine Captain America's backstory is?

I always find Nicholson to be over the top and not believable - same here.

Was the ending supposed to still be in Louisiana or in Florida?
