Sheen tanked it by being an idiot and forcing them to move on.

Sheen taking over for Michael J. on Spin City had a similar feel to Kutcher taking over for Sheen.

I always liked it with Sheen and a young Jake. Its what youd expect out of a 30min sitcom.

Just re-started Scrubs, and that's a great example of something dive bombing hard. I dunno if you can say it's Dave Franco's fault, it's an entire cast shift, so that might disqualify. But it has to be up there with total abominations.

shite, you can probably point at the writer's strike for some kisses of death. Remember Landry and Tyra killing that dude? Or season 2 of Heroes? Man, Heroes S1 was fascinating. And all of my answers are beyond the scope of the question, but that's what I thought of.

Thomas Haden Church leaving Wings was pretty bad.

Lowell was a dimwit, but at least the character was a well-intentioned friend who tried to make things work in life (literally and figuratively), even though his wife Bunny was a cheating whore.

His replacement Budd was just a dunce with no redeeming qualities, and he quietly vanished after a few episodes without mention. The introduction of Helen's sister Casey had its moments in the latter seasons, but her pathetic life was more annoying than charming.

No single character killed Andy Griffith... Color and losing Don Knotts killed it.

Even Andy Griffith admitted he basically quit trying once Knotts left. Interesting thing is the plan was to replace Knotts with Jerry Van Dyke, giving him kind of a soft introduction in "The Banjo Playing Deputy". That could have actually worked but Van Dyke ended up taking another show

God I forgot how much I hated him. Oliver gets most of the hate but this guy is a not so distant second.

Season 3 of The OC - Johnny:

Great answer!!!

He was annoying AF, didn’t mesh with any of the main characters, yet was prominent in the show, and then his death messed with Marissa so much, she reacted as if she had lost a member of her family

But I would have to 1Up your Kutcher demise of a show, to a show that was demised due to the loss of Kutcher.....this guy:

Wow another great answer

And just like Johnny from the OC he just didn’t have any chemistry with any of the main cast yet was treated like one of the gang right away.

In his defense, they tried to use him to fill the Eric and Kelso gap, so one inferior actor trying to replace the two most popular characters on the show, it was doomed to fail

Two and a Half Men is/was a terrible show. Ashton Kutcher killing it was a mercy.

Jerry Van Dyke had a history of picking the wrong shows. He passed on Mayberry and Gilligan's Island to do My Mother the Car (which was the go-to example of a terrible show throughout the late 60's and 70's). He could've been a part of an iconic show like Andy Griffith or an iconic character (Gilligan).

What about Married with Children. His addition helped it.

Not really a Kiss of death. They dropped that story line and rebounded. The show may not have been good as it was the first season but it was dang close. I was always impressed with them bringing in a close to brand new cast of Kids and made it work all over again.

Why did Two and a Half Men use the same actress as multiple characters in the show.

Judy Greer was Herb's sister Myra early on and then in the later part of the show she was Waldon's wife/ex-wife Bridget.

Jennifer Taylor's main character was Charlie's girlfriend Chelsea but earlier in the show she was Tina, Suzanne, & Nina
