Even though Harvey Korman did his voice, the character sucked.
It just didn't fit in.

Shemp was even a Stooge before there was a "middle" or "third" Stooge.

It was Ted Healy and Moe, then Shemp, then Larry. Healy was legitimately crazy and when bookers just wanted the Stooges, Healy went apeshit and threatened to bomb theaters. They briefly reunited, but Healy was a loose cannon, which ultimately drove Shemp to quit the act before the boys started making pictures. Curly (Jerome) the younger brother of Shemp and Moe filled out the original film lineup and the rest is history.
