My other 2 ideas are merely in their infancy stages and are just in outline form, with some of the characters developed and a rough outline. One idea though I'm in the middle of my screenplay right now and think it's quite strong, and is very much a Kubrick style film.

The plot is that in roughly the present day, a mission to Mars is orchestrated, but technology and high cost of the mission does not yet permit an immediate return trip. On Mars, two of the colonists fall in love and have a child. The child's parents love is short lived and the kid grows up to be a psychopath. He is not completely isolated from Earth due to the Internet and film. He is frustrated by the Internet due to the greatly added time it takes for him to use it, and his love for films has him greatly longing for Earth. When he is 18, America has finally allowed the colonists to return to Earth if they so desire, and the Martian obviously signs up to leave as soon as possible. Knowing that she would never see her son again, the mother (who has grown even more unstable than he has), sabotages the return shuttle so he could never leave her. Knowing that he'll now have to wait a few more years, if not longer due to his mother likely trying to sabotage his next attempt to return to Earth, he goes completely insane. After a few days, he decides to murder all the colonists, feeling they did little to stop his mother since he was the only one who was to return to Earth. There is alot more plot from there (that's about the first third of the film), but you should get the general idea.

So, Psycho on Mars?

Sounds like a rehash of Jason X.

I took the Screenwriting and Advanced Screenwriting classes at LSU about 20 years ago. I'm not sure if they still exist or not. In the first class you wrote the first half of a script 45-60 pages and the second class you wrote the second half 45-60 pages and polished up the first half. The Teacher was a guy named Blackwell who had written a couple of books and screenplays. We used the Syd Fields book and wrote our screenplays in Master Screen Format.

I'd say that probably the biggest inspiration was probably "A Clockwork Orange" and "The Shining" more than Psycho. He has alot more in common with Alex than Norman Bates. My initial thought was Alex being in the Shining and how be would react to it. You don't see he murdering the majority of the colonists or even the father. You see the first killing where he quickly slits one of the colonists throat. He waits for his mother to wake up to discover the carnage. Then goes on a slight rant before murdering her. The last third of the film is him dealing with true isolation.

Took Blackwell years ago. Now that I'm back in school, took first screenwriting. DIdn't have him, and not sure if he is still there.

We used Syd Field only because the other classes used them. My teacher was not a fan of his.

Sounds like you are trying to write more than one movie. Pick a story and go with it. Trying to throw too much in the plot will bog you down in the writing process. Decide what it is about and write it on that.

Any suggestions? Really the theme is isolation and dealing with a lifetime of it.

The only way I could see the effects of that is by throwing him into the world. He has to contrast, and by being isolated, naturally he doesn't understand social norms, and whats allowed in civilized society.

Basically, give him what he has always wanted, and then turn it into a hell for him.

Good suggestion. I have and still am considering the US coming to get him and put him into prison, and have him looking forward to it, but then it turns into hell for him. But I obviously need to think it through more.

Haven't really thought about it, but you're right. The mother figure is similar to his mother.

When I was about 9 or 10 I wrote a little script for Mission Impossible 2. Schwarzenegger was in the movie with Tom Cruise. Schwarzenegger fought alongside Cruise. Mel Gibson was in it as well. The airplane over the ledge scene in Golden Eye was incorporated into the film as well. Never finished it and next thing I know MI: 2 was coming out.

I had the idea first.
