Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones are close

Maybe not as big nationwide but season 1 of True Detective

Yeah I’m not happy about that, they are getting close to losing me. If they drop West Wing I am done

Got rid of X-Files when I was on season 5 or 6. Not sure if it’s on Hulu or something now, and will have no idea where I left off.

As far as "water cooler" shows, I don't think anything was as big of a cultural phenomenon as the first couple seasons of Survivor.

The first two seasons of Survivor have to be up there. It was insane how many people were watching it and I remember my entire class and teachers and shite talking about every episode.

Really ushered in a boom in “reality” TV. The fact that it’s still on (and leading ratings) this many years later says a lot too

On August 23, 2000, the Survivor: Borneo finale received the highest ratings of any Survivor episode to date with an average of 51.7 million viewers. Nielsen reported that 125 million people watched at least some part of the finale.

I have lucky timing I guess, watched Chuck right before it was cut, watched Fringe August 2016 right before it was cut, watched Lost a few months ago.

On last season of Person of Interest right now. If anyone hasn't seen it you better watch soon, Netflix will probably be cutting it in the next few months.

It appears it has more to do with Disney and Pixar starting their own channel at some point.

I can get the DVS's of LOST to watch on TV but I watch most of my shows on my laptop while I work. I have a odd job where I can watch TV while I work and I mostly do that on my laptop while I work. Which is why Netflix and Amazon are easy payments for me to make.

If you limit it to ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX i think you're right.

Lost was the most I ever engrossed myself in a show.

I hated the ending but man what a ride.

Game of Thrones is probably the closest... but it falls short in three ways in my opinion.

1) The books were already out, so anyone that read them had a decent overview of what was going to happen, at least for a while. As awesome as it was to watch on screen, people already knew a lot of what was coming.

2) Shorter seasons... even with 8 seasons compared to 6 for LOST, LOST will have 50ish more episodes. The first three seasons of LOST all had over 20 episodes.

3) HBO vs. ABC

I think Walking Dead was on the verge of being in the conversation, but it's pretty much fallen apart the last few seasons.

I’d like to add a number 4: the disparity in intelligence among the fans. Some dumb fricks who watch the show still don’t know who Rhaegar Targaryen is, which the LOST equivalent of that is not knowing who Christian Shepherd is 5 seasons into watching it.

Lost was a fun show to follow. I liked Breaking Bad more. It was more of a complete show and had a satisfying ending. The writers did a good job wrapping up the show. Lost left a lot to be desired in the last season or two. The ending was ok, but a bit underwhelming.
