Has any TV Series captivated its viewers like LOST in the past 20 years?

I think we could say Breaking Bad was close but I dont think the whirlwind of internet drama and overall discussion was as big as LOST. Im not saying its the best series, even though its my #1, but I dont think any show has created the overall discussion that it did while it was on air...

Am I missing some that came close?

Game of Thrones has got some pretty rabid viewers. LOST was perfect for its time and couldn't have been done before the invention of the internet, and Game of Thrones picked up right where it left off with the fans.

I agree. Lost hit right when message boards got cool. The outside discussion is part of what made it great. The watch parties and constant discussion. I remember those parties and the first time we did it. I couldnt believe we were actually doin it.

I have some friends, we all live in Georgia, who love The Walking Dead and have watch parties every week. Most of them live in central Georgia where it is filmed and love it. I like that series and watch it every week but in my opinion, it is not even close to what LOST was.

I know a lot of people were upset and did not get out of the show or ending they wanted but overall, that series was amazing.

I just finished it for the first time and I wish I had watched it when it was on. I'm pretty sure my wife (who's never seen it) was about ready to divorce me for constantly talking about it and all of my theories

I think that Lost fed off of the internet fan interest, making the series increasingly confusing in order to generate more interest.

Yeah, but I think Damon and Carlton respected their audience's intelligence though and didn't give a shite about leaving the casual viewer behind in the dust. In later seasons, Game of Thrones has made me frustrated when they dumb it down for no real reason in not having enough faith that the viewer could remember who Jon Arryn is or Tyrion's first wife.

You're right. LOST shits all over TWD, and I've watched every bit of TWD.

Twin Peaks proves my point. It was a show ahead of its time and probably could have lasted longer if it were made a decade latter.

The Sopranos maybe.

It's hard to compare cable vs subscription though.

You have a hell of a lot more internet usage and (especially) social media usage today as opposed to the late 2000's.

I'm guessing that you have more mentions of Game of Thrones when it's in season than you were seeing about Lost.

I cant agree with this more. Damon even talks about that in interviews after the series was concluded. It was a very difficult series to keep up with and they did not wait on people

Game of Thrones is also very difficult to keep up with due to all the different story lines. Plus, the names and dialog is very different than normal day life now so it makes it more difficult to keep up with. At times, I feel like they are leading me somewhere that is too simple to be true

This wasn't the case really in the first 3 seasons, but once 4 came around they started dumbing some things down. Like Tyrion killing Tywin over sentencing him to die, when he had been sent to the front lines in the first season in order for Tyrion to be killed.
