So far, this thread is full of foolishness. It's Shawhank, and it's not close.

True, on both statements.

Taking a Gump to demonstrate any sense supports statement #1.

Matt Damon's story about his brother and the ugly girl gets more irritating every time I see it. Not sure why.

Saving Private Ryan

Historically accurate, and the lingo and formations and things along those lines are militarily accurate. Much better movie IMO.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. Opening of SPR is awesome, but after that it's merely a solid movie. SPR is probably not even in my top 10 war movies

Private Ryan is a better movie.

But private Ryan is emotionally draining while shawshank is uplifting

SPR is a pretty average war flick after the opening invasion scenes.

Yeah…I don't know why people think it's an average war film after the D-Day sequence. You have the sniper scene in Neuville, the pretty awesome character development scene in the church, the whole scene at the glider, the assault on the MG-42 machine gun nest, Miller's monologue, and basically the last 45 minutes of the film.

D-Day sequence.

It's the best D-Day sequence ever made.

Ryan is my pick.

I agree.

If you think SPR is an "average" war movie, then I feel sorry for the life you live.
