Definitely other characters. I think they have made it a point to have as few characters as possible in order to do justice to the books as well as keep the Hodors from getting confused,
even though they still do. So why not have all the characters. Amiright? It's less characters to have to kill off I guess,

Am I correct in thinking the Gendry and Melisandre thing never happen in the book? Then it wasn't Gendry's blood, but Edric Storm's blood letting for medical purposes?
ETA: Melisandre got it on with Gendry and then put a leech on his unit! Hello!

To date in the books, she hasn't gotten her hands on kings blood

?? She was leeching Edric I am fairly certain. I am right at where the show is in my -re-read, and they have seen the leeches in the flames (it happens in the chapter right after the RW, and they mention that "if Joffrey dies, I'll believe it")

There needs to be a Kettleblack, just so the show can have this quote:
quote:
"She's been fricking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know.

Edric Storm had king's blood and she used him for the leeches. imo it's still debatable whether or not king's blood really contains power or is just a ruse Mel uses to make it look like she is causing the deaths she sees in her fire

I thought roose liked to leech himself and mellisandre was going to burn edric alive so davos sent him away

She sees the future in the flames and queefs smoke monsters, Thoros resurrects the dead.

i mean that she admits to using non-magical tricks to make her seem more impressive like her sleeve of explosive powder

I was a bit confused by the Melisandre thing.
So the three names Stannis says all get whacked, but is it because he said them? What do they see in the flames?
Who else was hoping Daario, Dany, and her servant were all gonna get in the tub together

Stannis throws leeches filled with Edric Storm's blood in to the bazier and names the 3 kings just like the show.
Melissandre says that sacrificing Storm will raise the stone dragon. That all happens a good bit before the RW.
In the book, Stannis is more opposed to sacrificing Edric and it isn't until after the 3 deaths that Davos sneaks Edric away.

The one character I think the show didn't do justice to was Roose Bolton. In the book he is a creepy son of a bitch that is cold and owns every scene he is in, especially when Arya is his cup bearer. In the show he is just kind of there.

The overly dramatic pause telling Jaime that Ceresi is alive. Creepy son of a bitch. Also the scene where he is trying to convince Robb to torture some prisoners. A Flayed man has no secrets.

I agree it would not have been appropriate for Sam to rule. House such as Tarley in the type of situation such as exists in Westeros when lords were expected to do actual fighting or at least lead in the field.
To me, Sam has a very specific Setbof talents or skills which would be very useful in modern society and maybe even in renisance or subsequent society. In GoT-land, though, I think maybe Maester would be the one thing he could excell at. I can't remember if he wanted to try that but Randall forbid it or what in the books.
It really took an almost un-believable amount of compassion, patience or foresight for Jon to assist him to the point where his talents pay off.
