Extras from the Blue Rays of the seasons already released are of course fine to post in this thread.

Since the playlist has been posted, I've had a question about this one.
Dragonstone- Stannis
Is the dragon glass the same as what Sam used two episodes ago?

quote:I get that, and I was the first one to point out that the bastard's identity is not supposed to be known by the viewers, though by this point it is known by the readers. As I've said, they clearly want that to be a big reveal, and I can understand why. Personally, I'm curious to see how a certain family is positioning itself with seemingly contradictory actions.
You didn't post anything that bad, but there will always be a few in the nonreader thread that react harshly to any information that wasn't contained within the show. They prefer to not know things and I believe their wishes should be respected. Those that like to know little nuggets that don't really spoil anything, like what "Mhysa" means, can come ask in this thread.
BTW, I have a question. Why does Jon Snow have a Valeryan (sp) sword? I don't remember that from season 1. Did Ned give it to him?

Jeor Mormont gives it to him (lord commander) after Jon saves him from the wight.
and shake the haters in the other thread. didn't see anything wrong with what you posted

i still haven't gotten a ruling on discussing the extras located on the blu ray discs. i feel they should be fair game
I want to say someone posted those other there awhile back and it was an issue.
General rule of thumb at this point should probably be if you have to ask, just post them here instead.

The sword is Longclaw, since the Old Bear had no son he could pass it on to, he had it refitted with a wolf on the hilt.
BTW it cost $240 on ebay

Yep, Commander Mormont gave it to Jon because Ser Jorah, his son, disgraced his family by selling slaves and had to escape to Essos because Ned was going to go to Bear Island to put him on trial. Selling slaves is a huge no-no in Westeros, shockingly.
I hope that's not spoiler-ish. I believe it was addressed in Season 1 as to why Jorah was over in Essos and not Lord of Bear Island.

I'm still waiting for the technology to improve so I can get a replica of the sword-shooting sword from The Sword and the Sorcerer.
ETA: BTW, has anyone seen Dire Wolf lately? He may not have taken this well.

And answering Kash's question over here
There are 5 books so far (A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons). There are also three accompanying novellas called the Dunk and Egg novellas that are set before the events of the current series takes place but they're all connected.
Personally I would start from the beginning. I didn't start reading until after I watched Season 1 and I'm glad I read the book because there is some things in the book that aren't in the show. I wouldn't skip any books at this point because they have deviated from some of the events that happen in the books.
You could possibly swing skipping the first book, but trying to skip right into the third would be a clusterfrick IMO.

how many books are there, and would you start from the beginning or just where you are in the show? something like skip the first 2 books and start where there's new material?

I skipped book 1 on the advise of a few friends. Wasn't a huge deal but i regret it because it took awhile to use to Martins writing style.
