Is their anybody of substance in the north still loyal to the Starks (a safe haven the kids could go). The Boltons are obviously treasonous asshats and the Karstarks left after the beheading obviously. I feel bad for those kids. frick this episode pissed me off. Did they kill Edmure off screen? Don't tell me but I really hope Blackfish going to take a piss was just coincidence and he wasn't in on it.

Answer this for me. Bolton has aligned himself with the Lannisters, has Frey also or was his involvement just because he was pissed at Robb for breaking his promise. Stabbing his wife in the belly was cold as frick. No music at the end was brilliant because that's how me and my wife felt.... Stunned silence after saying holy shite several times. Cat went out like a boss.

Well, there was a wife of Robb, it just wasn't "Talisa", and the book wife was from Westeros.

Yes, but killing guests under guest rights is second to only kinslaying in Westeros. The Frey name will forever be a pariah.

i think everybody except the karstarks and boltons are still pro-stark. i could be wrong.

quote:

Did they kill Edmure off screen?

that is the question. i could go back and forth about it. the freys pissing off the tullys would be stupid, but the lannisters think the tullys are traitors for joining with the north

quote:

Blackfish going to take a piss was just coincidence and he wasn't in on it.

i don't know much about his character but i just cannot see him betraying his family like that. he's in the knight's watch so he can't benefit personally from it. and he's possibly signing the death warrant of his family name.

quote:

i think the lannisters just had an easy "in" with the freys. the freys were already mad at the starks. i don't think they're loyal to the starks. they were an easy target for lannister alliance

if you're the freys, which side would you pick? the side that likely loses the war, doesn't control kings landing, and who fricked you over? or the side who has the most power, money, prestige, AND who can offer protection if you get your vengeance?

Yea I really like his character so I hope he's still alive to get revenge. This show has so many bad arse old dudes. Blackfish, Barrister, etc.... All flexing the old man strength.

No. He was the head of Lysa Arryn's guard in The Eyrie, but left with Cat when Lysa refused to engage/call her banners. He is Cat's uncle.

He's aligned with the Lannisters. I think the reasoning is two fold given what I've read at this point. They always called him the Late Lord Frey because he didn't throw his lot in until he had a good idea of who was going to win. Given the Karstarks had left Robb at that point, I think he went ahead and put in with the Lannisters because he knew Robb was fricked.

And I think he always felt slighted by the Tullys and the Starks and looked down upon. Robb spurning him (he could give a shite about his daughers) and disallowing him the change at being the King's father-in-law certainly didn't help that perception.

But he fricked up big time when he allowed them to break bread in his home which is a sign that you are protected in the house of a lord in Westeros. People take that shite very very seriously.

Eh. It was more an implication that he was the "black sheep" of the family given who you talked to.

So it's pretty much against the law to kill people eating in your home? What repercussions come with that?

The bread & salt ritual signifies "guest right," which has ancient meaning/significance in Westeros and is taken very seriously. I think there's an ancient Westeros story that someone served someone his dead son in a pie and he turned into a rat. Ill post the link.

Rat Cook from AWOIAF:

quote:

The Rat Cook is an infamous member of the Night's Watch. History has forgotten his real name.

History

According to legend, the man who would later be known as the Rat Cook was a simple cook at the Nightfort. He became infamous when he served an Andal King a pie that was made of bacon and, unknown to the King, the King's own son. The Cook killed the King's son, a Prince, in revenge for a wrong the King supposedly did to him. The King was unaware of this however as he ate and praised the taste and asked for a second piece. The gods, angry because the cook had slain a guest beneath his roof, cursed the cook and transformed him into a massive rat who was doomed to be unable to eat anything but his own young.
According to the story, he is an enormous white rat and all the other rats that inhabit the Nightfort are his descendants.[1]
Song

Such is the infamy of the tale that there is a song about the Rat Cook that is still sung in the Seven Kingdoms, despite the fact that this incident was supposed to have happened hundreds of years before Aegon's landing. The song is used to represent the repercussions to those who violate the sacred laws of hospitality in the Seven Kingdoms, which is known as the Guest right.

In other words, violating guest right is not looked upon lightly/is taken very seriously.

Back to your question with the Freys being alligned with the Lannisters, if Walder Frey didn't have a pardon for the acts he was planning on committing and did them anyway, Tywin would have still strangled all the Freys up by the balls for violating Guest Right and destroyed their house for it.

Guest Right is pretty much the most holy thing in Westeros. I'm having a hard time thinking of something that is seen as more sacred in our modern world. The rest of the realm, regardless of their alignment in this war, will find the acts of the Red Wedding sickening and want to destroy the Freys, but Tywin being part of its orchestration won't do it, but be more than happy to put all the blame on the Freys for the wedding itself. It's a safe assumption that after the events of the Red Wedding that they're by far the most despised house in all of Westeros.
