It’s already projected to make more than half of that in one weekend and the numbers are low balling

Wrong, the site you posted is about 12mil over the highest tracking projections and 23mil over the lowest plus the guy I responded to said it would make more in the 1st weekend than GM1 made total. GM1 made over 110mil, this movie won’t come anywhere near that in its opening weekend. The new movie cost 135m to produce which means it would need to make over 250m to make money not even counting advertising and it won’t which by definition is a bomb.

Brought my 5yo son to see it this morning - he loves gorillas and Kong

He loved it. I thought it was good - at least it kept the action going all the way through. I just like watching the huge arse monsters and this one delivered on that front.

It’s gonna do ok here this weekend with the Holliday but it’s going to fade fast and it’s projected to do about 50% worse than the last one in the far eastern markets and that movie released during Covid.

I love seeing monsters fight too, and that’s why I saw this opening night, but the action in this one was so unsatisfying to me.

Worst part was the build up for Godzilla and then it kind of doesn’t happen

Agreed. Not only was there no payoff, and not only did he seem like a needless side character, but it looked kind of goofy when he got lean and started sprinting around.

I thought shimo was a major let down, but skar king was a great villain.

A quick google search will confirm the tracking estimates I posted and also show the article posted to refute what I said is factually false. You won’t have to scroll through half a page to see it.

Looks like it's doing okay to me

SATURDAY UPDATE: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire continues to show gusto at the international box office, coming in with an added $31.2M on Friday for a three-day running cume of $47.9M in 62 markets. Not included in that total is the China Saturday which added an estimated $18M – that’s a good sign in the Hollywood-tepid market and portends a $40M+ opening session there. Domestic is also psyched on the sequel – and if the numbers hold through Easter Sunday GxK will top $175M.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it was kind of fun. No, I wish they didn’t go this route with this monsterverse, but it is what it is. And through all the goofiness and exposition, it wasn’t bad.

Of course we seem to be lightyears away from King of the Monsters.

They need to shut this franchise down for a bit and then come back with something a bit darker.

The campiness has reached the limit.

If you believe this movie will hit 175m this weekend I have a bridge to sell you. It’s made 44m so far worldwide with the extra day so it needs to do more than Dune and Oppenheimer did in their entire opening weekends on just Saturday and Sunday to reach what you believe is a fact. I don’t think you understand how this stuff works at all.

Cool, we'll discuss that on Tuesday. Just make sure to show up here and not runaway like others do so often.

Last time I checked... and I consider myself do be fairly good at adding numbers up... but.. $47.9M (which is already greater than 44) plus $18M is right at $65M. But hey... what's a few millions between friends, right?

Eh... I will. What's the goal to have or not have to eat crow?

My kind?? you're the one disputing every single box office trade, so I'm just asking you for some proof. Apparently madking from tigerdroppings has access to international box office data that others don't
